This song is entitled "First In My Heart" because it was the first new song I created in 2012. It has never been heard or developed until now in 2021. It has been in a vault of songs that no one has ever heard. This song helped me to get back to writing music.

This is the second track of an instrumental project I've entitled "It's All Greek to Me", as I explore the myths and legends of Ancient Greece.

I'm using Ancient Greek instruments featured in the 'Ancient Worlds VST Library from Big Fish Audio', underpinned with classical orchestral instruments. There are some very interesting sounds in it that do seem to evoke a time long ago.

Background

According to Greek mythology, Sirens were dangerous creatures, who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and singing voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island. Despite modern iconography depicting the Sirens as mermaids, early Greek art depicted them as part woman, part bird.

For this piece a Greek galley is introduced with a steady drum pulse and some Greek instruments to set the scene. We start with the Pan Flute supported by the Strings (Lyre and Kithara). Cymbal rolls represent the waves. The melody then passes to the Flogera and Alto Flute and a lone Siren voice before all three make an appearance. From then on they all act in counterpoint to each other. 

As the Sirens continue to charm the sailors, the Samvyke is introduced (another stringed instrument) as a sort of controlled tension that slowly gets a bit more frantic as the track starts to build. French Horns and Percussion herald the full fury of the Sirens unleashed on the luckless sailors. Helpless to resist, their boat is dashed upon the rocks. 

As the ship begins to break up on the rocky shore the track goes much smaller with a mournful solo cello, supported by the other strings. I wanted a melancholic ending  and the descending figure is supposed to represent the sinking of the boat alongside an almost funeral drum pulse, it just leads down and down into the depths of the sea. More lives have been lost to this peril of the ancient world.

The Sirens (It's All Greek to Me)

Wieder einmal auf Kontrollflug durch ihren Quadranten kam Disco-Cat am Planeten Neptune 9 vorbei. Eigentlich wollte sie nur neues Material für den Soundspeicher bei dem chinesischen Kater Meo-Wing für ihr Keyboard kaufen, doch von der gegenüberliegenden Diskothek hörte sie seltsame Musik… Ihr Mittelsmann, Kater Maunzi, hatte ihr gesteckt, dass Space Cat offensichtlich einen Job als DJ angenommen hat.
„So will sie sich auf den bevorstehenden Kampf vorbereiten?“, dachte sich Disco-Cat, „und vor allem, was denkt die denn, wer ich bin? Ich entführe doch keine Prinzessinnen!“

Irgendjemand spielt hier ein „abgekatertes“ Spiel. Um herauszufinden, wer hier Intrigen spinnt, entschloss sich Disco-Cat auf den Planeten Chephren zu fliegen, um sich in Whiskas-City Rat von der geheimnisvollen Sheba zu holen… Sie riet ihr - nach einem langen Gespräch - ganz entspannt zu schnurren und der Dinge zu harren… Mit neuem Material an Sounds für ihr Keyboard trat sie die Heimreise nach Maine Coon an - mit einem mulmigen Gefühl! Es war ihr, als ob ihr jemand folgte…

Doch den Rat von Sheba befolgend, zog sie sich die Kopfhörer über und hörte Musik von Cat Stevens.

Once again on a control flight through her quadrant Disco-Cat passed the planet Neptune 9. Actually, she only wanted to buy new material for the sound storage at the Chinese Cat Meo-Wing for her keyboard, but from the opposite discotheque she heard strange music... Her intermediary, Cat Maunzi, had told her that Space Cat had obviously taken a job as a DJ.
"Is this how she wants to prepare for the upcoming battle?" thought Disco-Cat, "and above all, who does she think I am? I don't kidnap princesses!"

Someone is playing a "hungover" game here. To find out who is scheming, Disco-Cat decided to fly to the planet Chephren to get advice from the mysterious Sheba in Whiskas City... She advised her - after a long conversation - to purr quite relaxed and wait for things to happen... With new material of sounds for her keyboard, she started her journey home to Maine Coon - with a queasy feeling! She felt as if someone was following her....

But taking Sheba's advice, she put on her headphones and listened to music by Cat Stevens.

Atlas was inspired by the book Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. The female narrative within the track is Rand herself taken from an interview with Mike Wallace in 1959.

A small note on my own behalf: I have noticed that my playback figures have dropped dramatically. The statistics show that the number of playbacks has dropped from 2000 per week to just under 200.
On the one hand, this is frustrating, as everyone sees this as an indicator and confirmation of their work. On the other hand, figures are not particularly important, but one wonders what is wrong. In my opinion, SC has changed a lot, uploading tracks has become more complicated and constant security queries are annoying.
In addition, great artists are disappearing from the platform, partly by their own choice, partly because they have been banned, the algorithm has “recognized” them as spam and mercilessly deleted their account. I'm still a paying member, but my attitude towards this has changed...

Please let me know your experiences and impressions.

A long, long time ago, there was an organ in the Christmas-decorated living room in his parents' house, where Frank grew up. Originally bought by his father for his two older siblings, they showed no interest in playing the organ. Frank, however, did. White and black keys and giving off strange sounds. 

So at the age of 9 he began to let his fingers circle on this instrument, searching for the right keys like on a typewriter. And another 9 years would pass before he could buy his first own instrument. Already at the age of 13 he made notes about the then current synthesizers, bought one magazine after the other and visited music fairs in Frankfurt, Germany.

His first keyboard was the Yamaha DSR-2000, which he bought in a music store near his hometown Biebertal. In installments! Finally he could develop himself further - away from the limited tonality of the small organ. The built-in 8-track sequencer helped him to reach unimagined heights. 
Little by little his equipment expanded and his ambition to create music like that of Jean-Michel Jarres came closer. Influenced by this and countless other musicians of the time, his interest grew, but he taught himself everything. Not even having attended a music school or being able to read music at all, he wrote one song after another and recorded them on the only medium available to him at the time: audio cassettes.
Many of these recordings are unfortunately lost forever, because cassettes are and were not the best recording medium. He has to try to play many of his songs from memory. 

In 2007, he fulfilled a long-awaited wish: to buy a KORG. He had always wanted to own one, but with the latest synthesizers at the time of their release having a purchase price of over 6000 D-marks (the currency of the time in the 1980s and 1990s), that dream of owning one was far away. So in 2007 he bought a used KORG 01W/FD at ebay. And as before with the purchase of the Yamaha keyboard, a completely new world opened up to him.

In addition, there were expanders and sound modules from Kawai, Roland and Yamaha (K1m, SC-55, QY10). Six years later his enthusiasm for making music ebbed and rediscovered his hobby (which it always was and still is). In 2018 in April he decided to present his music to a wider audience and uploaded his first song on the platform soundcloud. Since that time, thanks also to the ever-evolving software, he continues to evolve, experiment and relive his times through music.
