Moving to London from São Paulo eleven years ago, S.P.Y was quick to establish himself within the UK drum+bass scene. After six months of working with only basic equipment, S.P.Y’s natural talent for production saw his first ever release signed to Metalheadz in 2005, with a release on Hospital’s Medschool imprint soon following in 2006.  S.P.Y began collaborating with artists such as Marcus Intalex, Total Science, Kasra and DJ Marky. In 2009 S.P.Y released his first solo EP on Marcus Intalex’s label Soul:R and had releases on many other labels including Digital Soundboy and Innerground. 

The following years were immensely successful for S.P.Y, with Friction including five S.P.Y tracks on his MoS compilation and Andy C featuring four tracks on ‘Nightlife’. Proving his production quality and consistency in 2010 / 2011, S.P.Y delivered standout releases on Ram, Metalheadz, Critical, Shogun and Spearhead – Most notably the anthemic ‘By Your Side’. S.P.Y also took on high-profile remixes for the likes of Deadmau5, Claude von Stroke, LTJ Bukem, Chase & Status, Delilah and Zinc ft. Miss Dynamite, with S.P.Y’s own personal re-lick of Zero 7’s ‘In The Waiting Line’ becoming a signature in his live sets.

Signing to Hospital in 2012, his debut LP, ‘What The Future Holds’ was released to critical acclaim. The LP not only received significant support from fellow artists and topped online sales charts, but was also awarded the coveted ‘Best Album’ at the annual 2012 Drum & Bass Arena awards. S.P.Y backed up this release with a relentless tour schedule of Australia, the United States, Canada, Russia, Asia, New Zealand and Europe. 

S.P.Y’s skills behind the decks rival his studio talents and he delights fans with an educated blend of old school classics and fresh new beats. Always one to stay true to his roots, S.P.Y has a unique ability to bring his trademark underground sound to a worldwide audience. Alternating between beautiful, orchestral, musical sets and dark, rolling mixes, S.P.Y captures the emotions of the crowd. Whether he is playing at a high-profile festival or an intimate club show, S.P.Y always delivers.

In 2013 S.P.Y was again busy touring the world, playing at major festivals such as Tomorrowland, Global Gathering and Electric Daisy Carnival. He delivered successful remixes of James Zabiela’s ‘Perseverance’, Chris Malinchak’s ‘So Good To Me’ and Five Knives’s ‘All Fall Down’ on Red Bull Records. In addition to these achievements, S.P.Y was also selected to write, in collaboration with London Elektricity and Diane Charlemagne, the theme song for the 2014 Street Child World Cup. The track ‘I Am Somebody’ has helped to generate awareness and bring a new interest to Street Child World Cup, advocating for street children’s rights worldwide.

Moving into 2014 and S.P.Y is taking us ‘Back to Basics’ with his second LP. Released in two parts over the coming months, ‘Back to Basics’ draws inspiration from the deeper, darker sounds of drum+bass, and features collaborations with Total Science, Rene La Vice, and vocalists Diane Charlemagne, Grimm and DRS MC.

If any D+B artist can truly claim to be the “producers producer” then Carlos S.P.Y surely has a good case. If the comments on this album by his luminaries are anything to go by: "One of my fave producers" says DJ Hype, "Carlos back to his filthy best!" say Total Science, "There's only one S.P.Y” says Doc Scott.

Rob Gonzalez aka Machete began his musical career back in 1991 as DJ Rob G, spinning Hip-Hop at Hollywood afterhours events. The Los Angeles underground rave culture was in it's infancy and Rob was inspired by the techno-breakbeat music emerging out of England via vinyl records played by DJs Raw, Curious, and Oscar da Grouch. By 1994, Rob had fully embraced this new genre called ‘Jungle’ and changed his DJ name to Machete.

As DJ Machete, Rob helped put his crew, Junglist Platoon, on the map with gigs at nearly every Jungle party in the Greater Los Angeles area. A brief residency with Los Angeles mega-promoter Insomniac, plus a noted mention in URB Magazine's NEXT 100 Issue (1998) garnered much attention. Machete was also named LA’s #7 Best DJ by LA Weekly (2016)

In March of 1999, Machete and the Junglist Platoon began hosting a weekly Drum and Bass event called RESPECT with Rob in charge of talent bookings, promotions, as well as being a resident DJ. After 21+ years, RESPECT is the longest running Jungle/Drum and Bass weekly in Los Angeles in addition to being one of the most successful clubs of it's kind in the United States. RESPECT is globally known for bringing the best international and stateside talent and continues to do so after settling into it's current venue, Station 1640 in Hollywood. 

In 2020 Machete is busier than ever with his DJ residency at RESPECT, spinning at one-off events, booking Drum and Bass tours as an agent / owner of Respect Artist Agency, hosting a weekly RESPECT DnB RADIO program, and engaging production projects proving his versatility as an artist. DJ Machete's longevity speaks for his talents, dedication, and determination which has surely solidified his place as a force in the electronic music scene.

Nu:Tone is a name that automatically populates in a seasoned drum & bass brain upon hearing the words Hospital Records. But Nu:Tone’s first drum and bass release was actually put out in 2001 on John B’s label Beta Recordings after the pair became friends and established the local club night ‘Substance’ in Durham.  On returning to his hometown Cambridge, Nu:Tone met a squad of like-minded musical mates and eventually released the ‘Future Sound of Cambridge’ EP on Hospital in 2004.

With five solo studio albums to boast as well as a wealth of singles, and EP’s, Nu:Tone’s tracks can always be heard across dancefloors and the festival circuit. From his first studio album “Brave Nu World” to third studio album “Words and Pictures” (which was perhaps his most ambitious project) and all before, in-between and after, Nu:Tone’s output always gleans the full support of the wider dance music community’s biggest tastemakers from Annie Mac and Rene La Vice to Toddla T and David Rodigan. Nu:Tone regularly tours Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, confirming his global appeal. 

Nu:Tone can also be heard as part of other collaborative projects, like Nu:Logic, the Hospital Records signed sibling duo of him and Logistics. Or as part of Danism, under which he releases house with great success. Danism’s track “No Limits’ reached number one on the Traxsource chart in 2019 and received DJ support from house royalty Louie Vega, Danny Krivit and Todd Terry. 

Having a keen ear for other people’s music is something that we see from Nu:Tone in a multitude of projects. While working for Hospital as part of the A&R team, he also continues to work as a mastering engineer for Innerground, Spearhead and Soulvent Records. He fondly states an annual highlight for him is the stage he curates with Logistics at Sardinia’s famous Sun & Bass festival each year, and it’s clearly something he enjoys as he’s been back every year since 2003 (except one year when his eldest was born!)
