Los Angeles producer ATOM SMITH returns with a curve-ball of dark and moody downtempo electro swing for late 2019. Guest vocals from the sultry LEILA SODER channel the jazz spirit of diva's past from Billie Holiday to Ella Fitzgerald in this trip hoppy tribute. 

We can't get enough of this in the FS office. The tune is a real grower and (we think) the perfect match for the visuals...

Created in 2004 by producer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Thorpe, the Voodoo Trombone Quartet began as a joke. Thorpe had posted some tracks by the fictitious quartet on an Internet message board, claiming they were recently rediscovered recordings by a long lost combo.

His fun mix of classic ska and modern breakbeat immediately took off, with the board receiving thousands of requests for downloads. The Freshly Squeezed label noticed, signed the “band,” and released a self-titled debut album in 2005. Thorpe then recruited an eight-piece band, dressed them in suits and matching fezzes, and toured Europe.

They were a hit at festivals and landed one of their tracks, Voodoo Juju, in LittleBigPlanet for the PSP! In 2008 Thorpe announced that a second album was in the final stages and the band would be hitting the road once again.

RUMBA MUERTE is a catchy and beguiling Day of the Dead themed ELECTRO SWING song sung in Spanish... with Mariachi trumpets and musical quotes from both Parov Stelar and The Exorcist. This is a fine, funky and unusually quirky addition to any themed seasonal playlist. Watch out for more.
