Lane Beckstrom is a Chicago based musician who has been an in-demand bass player and a contributor to some of the city's biggest releases of the last 10 years – and now, he's stepping up to center stage as a solo artist for the first time. 

About as well-seasoned of a musician as one could be at his young age, Lane started out as a teenager in the cross-genre live band Kids These Days, with the likes of Vic Mensa and Nico Segal. From there he'd go to play and tour with The JuJu Exchange, Knox Fortune, and Resavoir (with Will Miller from the band Whitney). Beckstrom was also a contributing member of the Chance The Rapper-fronted group, Donnie Trump & The Social Experiment's 'Surf' album, which found him working with an all-star cast including BJ The Chicago Kid, Raury, and Eryn Allen Kane. 

Now debuting as a solo artist, as not only a multi-talented musician (playing guitar, synths, drums, and of course, bass), but also as a singer/songwriter – Lane’s debut single, “Parachute,” is fitting for this new leap of faith he’s making. Boldly carving out his own niche right from the jump, Beckstrom offers up a sunny, kaleidoscopic sound that gracefully floats between bedroom pop, indie rock and alternative R&B. 

Beckstrom is currently finishing up his debut LP for later this year, which was co-produced by Paul Cherry and recorded at his studio The Dungeon in Jefferson Park, Chicago. Stay tuned for more from the pair coming soon on Fresh Selects.

Lane Beckstrom "Parachute"

"Sand Spirit" is the fourth and final single from RUMTUM's upcoming album, 'Arcadian Daze'. Utilizing a muted, understated 2-step UK Garage break that evokes Burial's early work, along with a deep, pulsing bassline throughout. The song atmospherically layers warm, enveloping synth work with an otherworldly Koto-esque string line to create a melancholy, evocative soundscape.'Arcadian Daze' will be out everywhere March 24th.

Experimental hip-hop/jazz quartet Bokoya team up with Cologne-based producer / guitarist Gianni Brezzo (Jakarta Records) for ‘Tangram’, the second single from their upcoming album ‘Minari’ on Melting Pot Music.

Bokoya describe themselves as a four-headed human drum machine that play impro-vised beat music. You can call it jazz if you like (all four members are graduated jazz musicians btw) but be ready to stumble over some Dilla, Kraut Rock, Ambient or Dub in the mix. We recommend their double-album ‘Hausensession’ (MPM 2022) as a reference point.

Gianni Brezzo's music is a bit easier to access but not less leftfield. Jazz is a major influ-ence, but it goes way further. On his album ‘Tutto Grosso’ (Jakarta, 2022), Brezzo rides a sonic wave similar to Matthew Halsall, Surprise Chef, El Michels Affair and BadBadNot-Good. 

The recording sessions took place at the Gottesweg Studios in Cologne where Bokoya and Gianni Brezzo jammed for three days and nights based on some basic sketches and beat. The sessions were edited and arranged after by Bokoya and Brezzo but no overdubs added.

‘Minari’ will be available as digital album and LP.

"The World is but a Mystery" is the official debut single from ttwig – a new solo project from JUICEB☮X (the vocal half of Fresh Selects duo, Figmore). 

A veritable Swiss Army knife of talent – JUICEB☮X raps, sings, produces, and plays just about every instrument (even including the trumpet), and his prolific releases over the years have run the gamut of different styles – proudly dubbing his label for self-releases, "Ellen DeGenreless." 

And now, with his new ttwig moniker, taken from a song title on JUICEB☮X's 2021 'Overthin King' LP, he's purposefully honing in on a more specific sound – one rooted in the more psychedelic side of nostalgia, centered around more organic sounds and textures, and mostly focusing on his singing, songwriting and live instrumentation. 

A proper full-length ttwig LP is still to come – stay tuned for more...

At one point serving as the working title track to the album – "Daisies" is now batting clean-up on the roll-out towards Chicago multi-talent Lane Beckstrom's upcoming debut LP.  Fittingly, it also wound up being the closer song on the tracklist – a swirling summary of some of the varying styles and moods expressed throughout.
