Jus Donny

Rising R&B singer and songwriter Jus Donny discovered his passion for music at an early age but a crippling shyness prevented him from using his soulful voice; so he rapped instead. He would freestyle during his lunch period in high school but upon graduating, the young wordsmith began to tap into his vocal talent. Soon, the Detroit native connected with a local producer name Quick Tunes who had a home studio where the pair began recording tracks. That all came to a screeching halt when life as he knew it was upended by the coronavirus pandemic. The ambitious creative used the global health crisis as an opportunity to grow both professionally and personally. He got a job in order to invest in building his own studio, which he did followed by enrolling into YouTube University to learn how to use it. Those unique experiences gave the 25 year-old a boldness that allowed him to compose deeper, more personable lyrics in addition to gaining the confidence to trust in himself and his artistic abilities. Music became his therapy.

A byproduct of a mother and grandmother who sang in the church choir as well as a father who played horns in the band, Jus Donny grew up in a household where old-school soul music was played in heavy rotation. From the sounds of Luther Vandross to Marvin Gaye, it was something about those raw, painful, joyous and emotional sounds that felt special and sacred to him. As Jus Donny developed his own ear, he gravitated towards hybrid artists like Drake, Chris Brown, Ty Dolla $ign, Tory Lanez and Bryson Tiller; those who had a baritone voice and bars.

An eclectic and rising force, Cecil’s sharp sense of dance floor storytelling blurs the lines between Indie Dance, House and Techno and is rooted in classical training (incl. performances at Carnegie Hall).  While his latest EP Hip Aliens hit #1 on Beatport’s Indie Dance chart, Cecil’s also founder and resident at Burning Man soundcamp Miki Beach, and has brought his sound to Burning Man’s DISTRIKT every year, Hideout Croatia, Floyd at Club Space, Amsterdam’s A’dam Tower, and way beyond.

Cecil has shared line-ups with a myriad of top artists, including DJ Tennis, Maceo Plex, Bob Moses, DJ Three, Echonomist, Art Department, Paco Osuna and Stacy Pullen, while continuing to build his discography with numerous well-received productions. 

As he continues to expand his reach, Alex Cecil remains committed to pushing his creativity forward, blending genres, and creating music that connects with audiences on a global scale.
