Operator* is the deeper, tougher Techno alias of UK producer Rich Jones (Soma, Kanzleramt, 8 Sided Dice)

Operator, and Gnosis Records, was born in 2012 with a distinct intended theme of elemental, hypnotic, tribal, deep but tough techno, utilising more analogue, and less 'digital', sounding techniques, in line with the sound Rich grew up with in the late 90s and early 2000's. This aesthetic was also guided by the idea of connecting to deeper realms of consciousness, via the intrinsically tribal nature of repetitive, hypnotic drums and layered textures. Gnosis is Rich's passion project.

Gnosis 001 (Elements EP) arrived in late 2012 to widespread recognition, with DJ's like DVS1 and Steve Rachmad playing B2 track 'Hermes' constantly on the road, including during their Boiler Room and ADE streamed sets respectively.

The Elements EP also caught the attention of Radial, who signed up a four tracker by Operator for his label Audio Assault. The 'Proton Waterfalls' ep took nearly a year to emerge, but it was worth the wait, and was well received when it arrived in September 2013, being played all over the world by DJ's such as Developer, DVS1, Shifted, Rebekah, Marcelus, James Ruskin, Drumcell and many more.

Gnosis 002 followed shortly after, receiving excellent feedback again. Gnosis 003, a four tracker by Operator ('The Dark Circle' EP), landed on vinyl in 2014, again to great feedback from DJ's.

Operator also recently appeared on Chris Liebing's CLR imprint, as part of the 'Mind Sets' sampler series alongside the likes of Perc, Pfirter, Monoloc and Bas Mooy. Then, In late 2015, Rich released one of his most popular records to date, the 'Elastic Minds' EP on Marcelus' Singular Recordings. Released on vinyl only, the EP received wide spread acclaim and support from the Techno scene, and one of the tracks, 'Flat Rotation Curves' was licensed to the latest Fabric Mix cd. The release also led Rich to be invited to record both the Ilian Tape podcast, and the Invites Choice podcast (which is forthcoming later this year).

On top of this, in 2015, Rich also completed a remix for Martyn Hare's Emetic, and collaborated in the studio with Radial (Mord) on a project that will be emerging some time in the near future.

With other EP's in the works for some excellent labels, his debut gig at Tresor looming, and more records on the way from his imprint Gnosis, the future for Operator is looking very interesting…

Rich Jones, aka Operator, is a Techno artist from the south coast of the UK, his garden studio nestled between the Ocean and the South Downs. Rich is known for his characterful, funky, heavily percussion focused sound - everything from house tinged techy funkers, all the way up to tough percussive bangers, via deep melodic excursions and trippy head spinners. Primal, some could say 'tribal', grooves, always lurk in his productions. Carrying an eye for detail in the unfolding of the sequence, and with an expectation of focus and patience on the part of the listener, Rich, using mainly hardware, crafts each track as a unique, subtly detailed journey, whilst always retaining an unmistakable signature sound - an ever present energy, texture, warmth and groove. These are tracks designed to excite, emote and ultimately to get you into flow state (and get your hips moving to boot).
