We are excited to present the opening set from this year’s edition of Front Republic: Em!

Em’s relation with music started at a very young age, when she could barely talk but could play the piano by ear. Later on she started learning music through singing and the violin, and discovered electronic music. Since then, Em’s ability to create musical journeys were made especially for her friends, to make them smile and travel throughout her sets in private parties and in events around Montréal.

Through colourful builds of house sub-genres, Crescenzo accompanies his listeners on their own journey, driving them through high-energy sets full of discoveries and timely gems. Ascending pieces of deep, melodic, prog and tech house find each other in his world, to form unique dancefloor experiences. He is clear on his goals: immerse audiences into sound, provoke vibrant reactions, embrace and explore change, and find those small details that ignite a listener's attention. He knows where to push, where to pull, where to test, and where to build and build until finally, the peak is reached and we may contemplate the moment before we start over again.

Julie/Anne, a passionate music lover and a very talented emerging artist from the Montreal underground music scene. Born out of the underground through the encounter of the prog and the techno. This brought her in 2015 to get into djing, and she did it her way by only following her strong intuition and musical sense and most of all by self-teaching herself.

As 2020 was turning out to be a nightmare for many of us, Julie/Anne (CAN) rose to the occasion, leaving an indelible mark in music lovers’ hearts. Back in February 2020, after she literally floored everyone at Velvet Speakeasy (a well-known venue in Montreal), she continued spreading her love of music in many ways, as everything was shutting down. She made her mark with her FB live sessions, recorded collabs with Paris (France), Oslo (Norway), collaborated with SuperSonic Gin to curate an amazing Spotify playlist featuring local electronic productions as well as being invited on AfterHours.FM. Julie/Anne has also a passion in lending a hand to help great causes. That’s why she is involved with FK en Musique, a non-profit organisation that raises awareness and funds to help cure Cystic Fibrosis by sharing musical experiences. She is implicated not only as a DJ, but also as an artistic director, marketing consultant (as she has over 20 years of experience in that domain) and member of the board of direction. One of her biggest accomplishments so far, has been the opportunity to open for Eekkoo (Canadian producer - mau5trap) at Piknic Electronik in July 2021, the most sought out summer event in Montreal. When dancefloors shortly reopened again in November 2021, she had the privilege to be invited at Salon Daomé, Espac3 and Nhau bar.

As she never stops evolving, Julie/Anne recently decided to pair up with producer Lilla Støv and is currently working on her first productions. |Wolken| is now available on all digital platforms and received early support from Hernan Cattaneo.

In terms of musical styles, Julie/Anne does not define herself as a “one genre” DJ. She creates sound journeys that weave various textures and sounds, whether they come from the melodic house, dark progressive, even organic and afro sides. As a true artist, she crafts her sets according to the desired ambiance, but always with her unique storytelling. If you are lucky enough to attend one of Julie/Anne’s gigs, you will rapidly find that she’s a true, authentic, and very passionate artist who just loves to perform live in front of music lovers from everywhere. There’s just an indescribable energy about her that makes you ask for more.

Here is the live recording of my set at this year’s Front Republic festival. 

That gig is definitely one of my highlights of this past Summer. Front Republic is such an incredible festival and at the heart of its success is its community. I still remember how responsive, attentive and passionate the crowd was during my set. It brings back such great memories and puts a smile on my face when I remember all the familiar faces and new ones I met during that day. The energy of the crowd during my set was phenomenal and even though I only had 1 hour and ½ to write a musical story, I found a way to play the unexpected and it was amazing. Two of my unreleased tracks are found in there, which will both be released early in 2023. I truly hope you’ll enjoy this musical journey as much as I enjoyed writing it.

I'm super happy to be able to share this recording with you, from what was one of my favourite musical gatherings of the year last year. So many friends and familiar faces as well as new beautiful people, all dancing barefoot in the sand with such an amazing energy having connected through breathwork, yoga, ceremony, river swims, and 2 days of shared festival energy and music. I picked things up from Horla and Aura Jade who did a great job building an amazing uplifting energy through the sunny Sunday afternoon. I started playing at 4pm when the sun was still bathing the dancefloor, the sky mostly clear, no worrying signs of the storm on the forecast. After about an hour of fun, dark clouds started rolling in, hiding the sun and bringing with it super strong winds and a total downpour. The canopy over the dancefloor started billowing, the people started going wild, howling and screaming, dancing like crazy, giving all their energy back to the storm through the music, surrendering completely to the moment! After some time the storm started to settle and we started floating. As we landed at the end of my time, the setting sun started to poke through the rain clouds and Opposite Direktion took over and closed the stage with an awesome performance. It's an evening I know I will remember for a long time and am so grateful have shared and co-created with all the amazing people there.

Dexter Crowe @ Front Republic Festival 2022

To move to a new city is to have the chance to live many things for the first time. Of all of them, the Front Republic festival was without a doubt the highlight of my move to Montreal. The people, the freedom, the music and everything in-between has made dreams become reality and vice-versa.

This is a recording of the set I played opening the stage on Saturday afternoon under perfect sunshine and scenery ☀️ Dancers, swimmers and beautiful souls of all kinds gathered to kickoff the second day. This set explores deeper and transcendental sounds while remaining warm and inviting for the afternoon.

I am beyond grateful to have been part of this festival and community, hats off to the FrontRite crew for making this possible. Whether it's for music or to hand out grilled cheeses you can count on me to be there in 2023 ❤️ Until then, see you on a dancefloor in Montreal or Quebec!
