Second very very special recording from the best night ever, in our Animix sub series of live recordings from Animalia x @vortexvortexvortex events. 

There’s not really a short or concise way to introduce Reptant (@reptant_the_lizard) (formerly Lou Karsh). One of Australia’s finest, most talented, and most dedicated exports. Apart from running his own top tier label,  LKR (@lkrrecords) , Lucas has been releasing music under various aliases for 5+ years now, on incredible labels including Kalahari Oyster Cult and Furthur Electronix. It's been incredible to watch his sound grow and evolve. Somehow always something new and exciting, but always classy and refined. we were so lucky to have him close out the event, especially before he jets off on a huge Europe tour very soon. Pure minimal electro class from beginning to end, filled with forthcoming Reptant bangers and beyond. 

Not only are you a dear friend, but we are so proud of you and we love you so much Lucas!

Banging dnb infusion from Melbourne/ Naarm local Julian Gelder aka Dividens ( @user-826629965-550806120 ) for number ninety six.

Julian is quickly building a name for himself locally and abroad with his crisp, classy and unique modern style dnb/bass/dub style productions, with recent releases on local imprints @secretworldlabel & @purespacefm 

This mix is the perfect introduction of Julian's sound to the Animalia community. Animalia's dnb explorations will go deeper and further with a Dividens EP on it's way!

Who/what currently inspires you music-wise that has nothing to do with music?

Spending time with friends and my partner,Linn Park crematorium, the atlantic ocean,sunrises, sunsets, watching films. At the time of writing this I have just returned from Drop Everything festival in Ireland and am feeling creatively charged after that too. 


If you had to trade your USB with one DJ, who would it be and why?

Byron Yeates- we have been friends and playing together for 10 years and I am constantly in awe of their depth and skill! Love you B! 

How do you typically prepare a mix?

Depends, if I’m tight for time finding a bunch of stuff that goes together from my collection already, if it’s for a bigger project I usually write down some stuff about the vibe and try and base my mix off a couple of important tracks in it. I’ll usually try out a few drafts and listen and see what it does or doesn’t need, digging digging digging digging as I’m getting it together.

How do you avoid burnout? 

Saying no, listening to the birds and napping. 

Who do you think is the most underrated artist of our time?

Hard to say in this internet bubble time but deejay wise probably Cáit and Angel D’Lite (there are many other mix masters I admire getting due credit which is great to see too). 



What is your favorite party/collective where you reside and why?

Not quite where I reside but Radiant Love is my favourite party. I have had my most life-affirming club experiences there and they have set the benchmark for how to run an event. The music, the people, the ethos, the space, the sound… it’s a real privilege to be able to contribute even if it’s in a very small capacity. Shout out to DIP and Gash Collective in Ireland and Shoot Your Shot in Glasgow too; High Hoops in Manchester doing great things as well.  


What was your best moment at the supermarket?

Morrisons reduced section on a regular basis- I fuck so hard with 13p bags of herbs

B has so many shades to their sound and it’s a delight hearing the tougher end of it. Recorded live no less! Big shout out to Cáit and Angel D’Lite’s contributions to the Hue & Saturation series too.  

Dream DJ gig?

Closing Radiant Love, Berghain or Nowadays; playing to all of my friends on a dancefloor at once with a huge sound system- doesn’t matter where or when, this would be enough.

Any advice to upcoming DJs? 

Don’t sweat mixing, find music that you LOVE, don’t pay attention to others and figure out what it is you like about the music you play and follow your ears x

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

Wider discussions about what a truly safe space means, accountability,accessibility, diversity, privilege and gatekeeping. I feel like it’s actually more harmful to say a safe is space when proper measures aren’t being taken. 

I had a horrific experience of being needle spiked in an otherwise safe queer space recently so I would like to see more safeguarding measures against this happening in clubs (I plan to expand about this a bit more publicly somewhere soon). Fuck all of the predatory men out there. 

Collective and communal action targeting white supremacy, the patriarchy and abusers having any sort of power in dance music and wider society as a whole. I dream of dance floor utopia. 

I would really really like to see less phones in DJ booths and on dancefloors too and a big move away from the social media focus. 

Also more focus on communities building homegrown scenes and not relying on international bookings for anything. More resident DJs.

"I recorded it at the end of this past summer, which coincided with the end of the festival season. I needed to recharge my physical+emotional batteries after a summer-long marathon of playing non stop in clubs and festivals all over France and doing my Berlin debuts.

 I think the mix is an accurate reflection of my mood in that moment. It’s a nostalgic combo of slow rhythms, soft vocals and transcendental vibes, which help de-clutter the mind and ease the soul. I would recommend giving it a listen on a sunny afternoon, going out on a walk in a park or while riding a bike near a body of water. "

Happy New Year! We're starting off 2023 with a bang as we welcome Renzo for our first mix of the year. 

Hailing from Australia, Mats has created his own sound through his productions, they give easy access to all types of soundscapes making them perfect for slotting into any kind of mix. Incorporating numerous genres, his productions have percussive textures, lush sound design, and deep bass driven arrangements oozing inspiration from Progressive-Techno, 2000s Dubstep, Drum Funk and DnB. 

As for the mix Mats has showcased a mind bending selection of DnB and half tempo rhythms bringing us to deep psychedelic waters with incredibly smooth blends and pacing throughout.

He had a few words to say about this mix: "This mix capsulated my musical inspirations over 2022, some old, some new. It’s packed with released and unreleased local music. I’ve never been more excited and inspired by my local scene and I’m super grateful for everyone pushing such awesome music”

Fuaim Mix 026 | Renzo

Lucas J. Hatzisavas has several different aliases but as Reptant (@reptant_the_lizard) since 2017, he has really excelled. The Melbourne-based reptilian has spread his electro sounds far and wide on always classy labels from Kalahari Oyster Cult to Trust to Craigie Knowes. His acid-laced machine sounds are often jammed out live before being edited into tracks. They are imaginative, bristle with energy and feed into an alien lizard narrative he's built around the project, not least with his debut album Return To Planet X'trapolis.

This week we're invited to peer through a window into that otherworldly universe with 60+ minutes of kinetic rhythms and cinematic sound designs. All shades of electro come up from sleazy and ghetto to sci-fi and smooth. Plenty of acid lines weave their way throughout as Reptant slithers from dark corners of the cosmos to strobe-lit dance floors amongst the stars.
