‘When We Had A Home Planet’ is the soundtrack for a short story about relatable human struggles set in a sci-fi protopia where a new generation of humans live in Europa, one of Jupiter moons.

It consists of 6 songs recorded live from Kret’s bedroom, just with a violin, a 2-track zoom and a (pretty sci-fi) pedalboard. The violin is morphed through the pedals into a voice that sounds futuristic, synthlike, but also quirky, intimate and with a fair amount of gloominess.

The album becomes a first approach to a research (in the most childlike version of the scientific method) that intends to test the limits of what we can do with a violin when we stretch its possibilities through modern technology.

“A long time ago humanity fucked up their home planet. A small and privileged part of the population managed to embark themselves into an uncertain and unprepared interplanetary voyage with hope for a new start. Two generations after, a boy has an existential crisis at the outskirts of his birth town in Europa, one of Jupiter moons.
The boy tries to reconnect with his familiar and specific heritage through the memory of his recently deceased grandmother, thanks to a tape from when she still was a teenager back on Earth. A planet that he never got to know.”

Kret is a violinist, sound engineer, composer and music researcher. He thrives on experimental music and the underground scene. He has an academic background on historically informed performance and composition for video games. He has played violin with the post-rock band Purkinje, colaborated with a varied cast of musicians such as the ambient napcore guitarrist Ubaldo, the memetic digital musician Erik Hurtado (Opus Vivaldi among others) or the producer Ferida. He self-releases music explorations with a narrative/conceptual intent, centering his music around a violin expanded through pedals and DAW.

Which has left me bound, tied by strings and held down, unable to see the falsehood in intangible solids
Reminds me of the walls that surround a prisoner,
His vision accustomed to viewing the world from inside barred windows through cold steel doors
Never remembering the intense beauty of a sunset, or getting to feel it’s loving and nurturing warmth softly kiss the skin
A fiery-red, through a filter which has so effectively captured harshness, hatred, and rage
Fills his corneas and sit ever so lightly above a revealing color coating
Still burning, stinging the sights of anything he lays eyes on, until his eyes run
And now soft tears,
In an ocean-like blue, with such depth that shallow ends seem to be non-existent
Through a filter that was there with him for every betrayal, every moment of extreme paranoia, and virtually every unfortunate tragedy
If only he could show them behind the grayness which casts a shadow above the chin and below the forehead,
If only he can remember those times as a kid he had had with his mother, running and playing in the fields as an adolescent, laughing in a childish excitement which still echoes softly when she dreams of their old memories
If only he could remember what it is was all like before living through the filter
