The only 20 minutes we have of the fantastic live set of Sven Atterton at Hot Pony. Due to a power cut later on in the night the recording device corrupted the remaining wav file so that part of the night will just have to be remembered by those that were there.. what a great night it was! Sven was borrowing an old bass with old strings so he'd like it known that his bass playing is usually a lot better! It was also totally pitch black behind the decks! Enjoy! x

XVI Records are proud to present their latest signing, courtesy of Parisian producer ​Plage 84 ​(whose has previously released on the likes of ​Roche Musique).

His latest offering is entitled “Amango”, (as Mango’s are the most commonly found fruit in the Ivory coast) a fitting name, given that the EP itself is the result of a beautiful chance meeting in ​Abidjan​.

Following a driving curiosity to visit West & South Africa and discover new music, Plage 84 (AKA Kevin Descourty ) found his chance when his partner at the time was briefly working in Abidjan. Kevin explains “​I joined her and ​Dodji Efoui was living in the house next door right in the same street, obviously we met through a connection in common he had with my girlfriend’s family. ​Tulliae was a good friend of mine from France and she was randomly working on some projects in Abidjan at the same time, so we made some sessions together and they both met each other through this musical journey​”

The trio started jamming in the basement of Dodji’s house, utilizing very modest equipment but quickly realising that their chemistry was producing some pretty spectacular results.

Following this meeting of minds, a second trip to Abidjan was made, with a Shure SM58, a keyboard and a sound card, finally capturing the essence of this vibrant record. Kevin then began working tirelessly on molding the tracks in his unique style : “​I worked on many versions back in Paris, went in a friend’s studio in Morocco to continue it, and then I decided to move back to South africa, this time Cape Town for almost 2 months to finalize the last producing part on every track.”

“I would say this is my first project made between so many countries and I’m quite happy I think we can feel it inside the different tracks.”

Full of swirling textures, cascading shades and relentlessly changing patterns, the EP captures a true essence of creativity, inhabiting a unique trans-cultural space, demonstrating the sharing of ideas and coming together to create something beautiful. A reassuring message for such divided, troubling times.

Sydney space funk trio, The Goods, are Badmandela, Rosario & Black Tree. With the help of some friends, The Goods capture the energy of jamming and improvisation to create music that transports the listeners to a moment in time shared together on their new album 'II'. 

Musically and lyrically ‘II’ is about living in the moment. Each track harnesses the mood or vibration in the room at the time of its inception. The album features 20019's breakaway hit “Let’s Roll” featuring Touch Sensitive (Future Classic), a reminder that mood is about choice...if happiness is a state of mind then why not chose it? “Last Chance” is an invitation to take life by the horns because, in these uncertain times, one can’t take anything for granted. “Voodoo” is that one flame, whose flaws you overlook because they got the mojo while “Walking On Fire” is a nod to band's 80s heroes mixing the likes of Luther, D-Train, and Jam with a future club feel. "Peach" is an anthem for sexual liberation & at the same time being a cheeky funk jam. “Shots”, the album single was born at a jam at Touch Sensitive’s studio - Disco J rocks up a drum loop and turns it into a party! The Beastie Boys meets Marvin Gaye meet Anderson Paak in “Cassandra” resulting from a hang with The Goods’ friend Elliot Hammond of well known Australian band The Delta Riggs, while “Tell Me” is a sexy late night joint for those nights on the prowl. “Che Boog” is an ode to the sleazy funk of Parliament, Funkadelic and Prince , and lastly the Black Mirror inspired “Supersonic” is a tale from a time-travelling consciousness stuck in a dystopian 2020. 

Fueled by their mutual love of hip hop & house music and its intersection with the soul, boogie and jazz they grew up on, producers and multi instrumentalists Badmandela (Jarrol Renaud) & Rosario (Ross Ferraro) formed The Goods and released their self-titled album in 2016, drawing on their wealth of experience as producers and session musicians, having cut their teeth with artists the likes of Mac Miller, Charli XCX, Sampa The Great, Omar, and more. The album attracted the attention of and ultimate signing to Bastard Jazz (NYC) and led to the addition of talented vocalist Black Tree (Adele, Ngaiire, Taku + Wafia). In 2017, they released their runaway single 'Make Your Move' which garnered radio support from Triple J and Fbi, with the accompanying video featured on Rage as 'Wild One' of the week. The 2018 EP of the same name yielded the break-out streaming hit ‘Glow’ and solidified the band’s position as the foremost act in Sydney’s emerging electronic soul scene.

Earning praises from a worldwide range of selectors that include the likes of Dam-Funk, Tama Sumo, San-Soda, Mike Huckaby, Jamie XX and 2562, Dean aka the Funk Bast*rd (one half of the Cosa nostra duo and co-founder of Singapore-based label Darker Than Wax) has been tirelessly pushing and promoting an alternative expression of leftfield music through his widely eclectic and genre-bending sets. Being the main A+R and creative mastermind behind DTW, the label has flourished tremendously over  the past 5 years, cementing its place as one of the go-to labels out of South East Asia.

His musical selection, which traverses between a huge variety of musical genres like deep jazz, soul, funk, boogie, brazilian grooves, house, techno, breaks, hip hop and bass numbers have left many indelible marks on the dancefloors.

It’s no surprise then that he has played alongside some of the world’s finest like Gilles Peterson, Benji B, Kyle Hall, Lefto, Recloose, Gerd Janson, Basic Soul Unit, Linkwood, Norman Jay, Souleance, Pearson Sound, Krystal Klear, Tiger and Woods, Mike Huckaby, Seven Davis Jnr and most notably, warmed up for Dj Ez, Fourtet and Dam Funk.
His sets have also taken him around the world, playing most recently at Dimensions Festival in Croatia, various cities in Europe, Asia, and Brazil. In 2016, Funk B was also invited on BBC 1XTRA, Rinse RM, Radar Radio, and swung through the legendary Brownswood basement of Gilles Peterson with a 2-hour exclusive Worldwide FM mix. He is also a regular presenter on Gilles' Worldwide Fm, transmitting good vibes every 3rd Tuesday of the month.
