Captain Mustache is a French music producer and DJ from Paris.

Since 2020, he made releases on some of the greatest labels of the scene: Kompakt, Exploited, Mobilee, Permanent Vacation, Helena Hauff's Return To Disorder, and a full album on John Digweed's Bedrock Records, with a constant support from the best DJ's in the world.

As a true Electronic music lover, he worked with some Electro idols (Dave Clarke, Chicks on Speed, Adamski, The Advent, Paris The Black Fu, Keith Tucker from AUX88...) to bring an extra vocal dimension to his music.

Inspired by 80's pioneers, Detroit techno and Electroclash freaks, we can define his sound as romantic & burlesque.

The studio for the radio show, to which the main guest is invited with a vinyl set, is decorated with the artwork of the young Spaceman Golden, who attracted unprecedented attention with his funny shot. In addition to references to the times of freedom, ups and downs, everything here is imbued with unconditional love for music: there are remixes of soul-funk legends, gentle as whipped cream, jazzy house, intricate minimal abstractions and much more. Going live, Lawrence impresses with variability and layering, Boards Of Canada pampers with a fleecy dip, and youANDme exposes their tribal with progressive inserts.

SBat began the night right, slowly sinking us in deep with choice choice atmospherics and hypnotizing beats. The party that followed was one to remember and we're delighted to present our listeners with a glimpse of that night.

SBat - Subterra - Live at Upsidedown 17.06.23

This set was recorded live on the night opening from 11pm - 1am for Subterra, something I hope will become a regular thing in Osaka (and hopefully Tokyo). It was a truly amazing night to be a part of and something I spent a lot of time thinking about and getting records together that I hoped I could piece together on the night to suck people in and set the scene for DJ Morita, Lene Andreasen and yu1 (who all played amazingly). The mix is of course a bit rough around the edges, a couple of times I zigged when I planned to zag but hopefully that adds to the charm and the journey as a whole is one you'll enjoy. I know I certainly enjoyed being there and listening back to it brings back memories of what was an incredible night that I won't soon forget.

I went back through the mix trying to piece together the tracklist so hopefully others can go forth and find more stuff by all of the amazing artists on there. I think I got them all but apologies if I missed/messed up!

Machines Need Love Too (Special DJ Mix)

Our special guest on this week’s Cadenza Music Source to Cycle podcast is Funk D’Void.

Hailing from Glasgow, and now based in Barcelona, Funk D’Void AKA Lars Sandberg, has been a prominent artist in the techno and deep house scenes for many years.  His first records as Funk D’Void came on the Soma label, the imprint owned by the Slam guys, and he has continued to work with them since the mid 1990s.  Under the moniker Francois Dubois, he’s released some delicious deep house music for labels like Urbantorque and Komplex De Deep, and in 2010 he launched his own label, Outpost Recordings.  Add to this various other monikers and collaborations (Chaser, Darkside, Hipp-E Funk), he is also a  busy DJ both in the clubs and on the festival circuit.
Funk D’Void has always made music with both energy and soul, and always DJs with an encyclopedic knowledge of electronic music, delivering the best cutting edge sounds in his sets, so please enjoy this week’s podcast.

You might recognise Mike Norris as the guy who plays keyboards in La Roux's live band. But you might not recognise him as Fort Romeau, the one man production unit currently specialising in lush deep house that nods toward Detroit and Chicago. 

His forthcoming debut LP 'Kingdoms', out March 6, took Mixmag HQ totally by surprise. Released by the consistently on-point 100% Silk, it's Norris' very first release as Fort Romeau and contains 8 tracks of retro-referencing house that moves in a forward thinking direction. 

We asked the man himself to go into the mix and he's come back with a 45 minute work out that takes in Boddika, Kassem Mosse, Midland and Evan Tuell. It's a high rhythmic selection from a producer who has come up with one of the best records of the year so far. Check it!

The Barcelona based DJ and producer's influence across the tech house and techno scene over the last 20 years is indisputable. 

His melodic masterpiece "Diabla", released in 2001 became a huge global hit and DJ Mag's 'techno record of the year'. Played by house, progressive, techno even trance DJs, its release saw the Scot’s career soar to new heights! 

Other hits "Jack Me Off," "Bad Coffee”, "Emotional Content", remixes for Underworld, New Order, and Laurent Garnier, plus releases for Bedrock, Drumcode, and All Day I Dream, are just a mere snapshot of his discography. 

Seminal mix compilations for Balance Series, Soma's Sci-Fi Hi-Fi, and Cocoon followed, further cementing his place in dance music history. 

Still not content with conquering techno, Sandberg was mystery figure behind “Francois Dubois”, with releases such "Blood" and "I Try" named as a big influence for Darius Syrossian, plus many other leading tech house DJs of his generation.
