Furtive's super-saturated genre-mashing set from the SEQUENCE Four Year Anniversary stream. This set zips through pointillist techno hypnotics, drum'n'bass wigglers, tongue-in-cheek pop-club deconstructions, neo-rave pedal-pushers, and cryptic ambient book-ends. One hell of a journey. 

Recorded in August 2020 during pandemic swelter, this set was played at the last event organized by SEQUENCE in an important warehouse venue formerly vital to DC's underground. While SEQUENCE and this same warehouse may have been laid to rest, the energy of the events and the memories of foggy warehouse experiences will live with us forever.

This is a wild, unapologetic, barnstorming ride recorded between 1:00-4:00 on a throbbing dancefloor during the first leg of Nowadays Nonstop on the night of Jan 20. This was a romp of delivering my intentions passionately and precisely, playing many of my favorites, and operating at my very best across genres, traveling through a tunnel of engulfing psychedelic darkness, bass weight, shifting tempos, and beat structures into celebratory light. 

As an artist/DJ, these are some of the moments one lives for. It’s certainly something I’ve dreamed about for years. The opportunity to play in one of the rave’s hallowed halls - one of the most esteemed clubs and my own very favorite - was a dream come true and has been a quiet moment of apotheosis and vindication of years of dedicated, focused work. 

There are many nods and treats in this set: tracks shown to me by friends, absolute hypnotizing favorites and gems I’ve held onto, the voice of my true love, and (for those following my lore closely) the magic of opening with Phil Elverum’s work. Tracklist below:

We're thrilled to have the legend Ron Like Hell guiding us through these emotional eddies. Truly the best of the best, Ron is a musical magician like no other, an unparalleled master of the dancefloor with seemingly boundless energy and boundary-free flow that reaches back decades and stretches forward to the bleeding edge of dance music. We've fallen in love with Ron's sonic sorcery during many truly transformative sets and shared dancefloor moments - all delivered with unparalleled deftness and gentleness - and also with Ron's generous, bubbling personality which extends warm attention and supportive mentorship with a unique graciousness and sincerity. Ron co-runs the legendary Wrecked party - currently in residence at Basement NY - and makes frequent appearances at some of the most esteemed halls and precious holes we couldn't possibly enumerate. In support is Bounce Boss Furtive (whose development as a DJ has in no small part been nudged by the effusive support of Ron, from pandemic-period invitations to The Lot Radio and an appearance at Wrecked's 12th anniversary celebration in spring 2023). This is Furtive's first return to the Bounce House booth in 2024, primed by a recent romping set at Nowadays and more ready than ever to deliver their finest on beloved home turf.

Campout Mix Series: Furtive

Concrète x Bounce House was an unreal, riotous ride of elation and revelry, the crest of a wild wave, an astonishing achievement of muscle, love, community, and die-hard DIY real-deal True Believer rave shit. It was an honor to work together with Yōsuke - the legend who launched the pier jawns in the first place - to manifest this magic with a team of the nearest and dearest. … as the pier always is, this was the most chaotic carnival of humanity, bringing in the delightfully deranged for a romp across shattered glass, weathered concrete, burning shopping carts, and whoknowswhatelse straight through into shimmering, smiling dawn. 

The August 10 collaboration was the second and final edition of Concrète in the wild summer of 2024. 

This romp really had it all, from close calls to magical moments. Yōsuke b2b Wrench opened the night with funky drum machine flow, Nail Salon pushed the machines further with classic percussive techno motion, DJ Anarres picked up with that soulful spirit of sincere techno they love, and Furtive flew into dawn from pulsing darkness into scintillating daybreak trance. From there, Yōsuke, Nail Salon, DJ Anarres, and Furtive go round-robin b2b until the amps gave out and the generator choked. An adventure of laughter, tears, genuine elation, and true friendship. 

Yōsuke had some nice things to say regarding this arrangement. We’re posting this here for posterity:   “Bounce House has been a stronghold venue in philly for 2 years now, holding a musical & community ethos close to its chest resulting in the most consistently well curated and safest space to lose oneself in the city. As they’re on hiatus through the brutal heat of the summer, the dj’s of the collective ~Furtive, DJ Anarres, Nail Salon ~ will be let loose into the open air to present their each individually unique and wide spanning takes on banging it out for you. Yes indeed!!  Wrench is a bit of a mystery to me. I was actually out of the country on vacation hearing his live guest mix on Vicenta’s radio show while getting ready to go out and thought, yes. Absolutely yes … you can see a real crate digger and lover of the music. With that, I asked Wrench to b2b with me to kick this night off. Looking forward to our literal & musical meeting and what chaos might ensue!!!”

It's a real joy to be able to say, at the end of each year, something to the effect of "wow, that was a wild ride!" and reflect on a roller coaster of highs and lows, new insights, perspectives, constellations, and lessons learned. And indeed, 2024 has been a joyous adventure of bright triumphs to celebrate and knotted gnarls to untangle. There's a quiet sense of precarity simmering under all things when one operates in the cutty twilight zone of the barely-legitimate real-deal underground, so it's always truly precious when we have a chance to notch one more soaring night together and to celebrate a big loop through time, despite the feeling that the clock is ticking. So after the last grains of temporal sand have slipped out of the hourglass of 2024, join us to flip the whole thing over, inside, and out, and take the first steps into 2025.

Alternatively, if you're not into the foofy auspicious stuff like spiritually traversing the sand of time, and tracing meaning and destiny through solar and sidereal time and blablablabla, just come through to shake your ass, pop some bottles, hoot and holler, get a sloppy post-midnight new year's kiss, and kick off 2025 with fun and flair.... so come n' get it!!! We're thrilled to celebrate another HAPPY NEW YEAR with you!!!

We'll have Bounce House's reliable, adventurous residents taking us into dawn - familiar faces and seasoned selectors with the right sensibilities for surprise and celebration: that's Furtive, DJ Anarres, and Nail Salon, getting your asses moving across a free-form timetable, and Emme and Masina keeping those rowdy asses managed.

Furtive is a full-gonzo rave conjurer and relentless creative tinkerer, intractably committed to the rave as a Philadelphia-based producer, DJ, underground event organizer, and dancer. A shifting sonic chameleon, Furtive brings a scintillating, sentimental, and psychedelic touch to their artistry, rooted in wormhole-traversing technoid propulsion and dependably delivering riotous, slack-jawed whiplash moments of the delightfully unexpected. As a DJ, Furtive has played hallowed halls (recently rampaging at Nowadays and Basement), dingy holes, roaring renegades, broadcast booths, and festivals (The Great Beyond '23, '24, and headlining in '25, Honcho Campout '24, Making Time '25) - always with eclectic selections and a steadfast focus on pacing and dynamics while regularly jumping genres to build moving and impactful sets, often alongside internationally celebrated, no-nonsense acts. Beyond the fog and speaker stacks, Furtive creates art in a variety of mediums. They're as unapologetic in their sincerity and flair as they are in being a die-hard True Believer in the rave.
