Ninja Showdown (Hip Hop Beat)

Lipphead (production duo Blockhead and Eliot Lipp) return with a second block rocking single from their debut album 'In The Nude'.

The cheekily titled 'Don't Worry Be Horny' is a reference both to the vocal sample that introduces the track, and the prolific use of brass throughout this glorious clash of electro synths and classic funk stylings. These two producers specialize in creating playful instrumental hip-hop that traverses numerous musical territories. 

Illustrated by artist Maddison Chaffer - the titular Lipphead character is an integral feature of the project serving as the group’s mascot and as a tongue-in-cheek personification of the duo’s fused styles. This talented triumvirate of musicians and artist combine perfectly to connect with their audience via quirky, smile-inducing sonics and visuals that could engage even the most hard nosed folk.

In their own words Lipphead explains further:

"I would say, with this album in general, it was both of us taking things we were working on that we liked but couldn’t find a home for. For us this was a very "there are no rules" type venture. We allowed ourselves to be silly and unconventional with all these songs. "Don’t Worry Be Horny" was a tip of the hat to Bobby McFerrin and born out of a somewhat goofy vocal sample. Part of the goal was to take something and turn it into something else entirely."

Throughout Loci's existence, we’ve built up a real treasure trove of catalogue and of course some musically rich audio stems from across the globe.
Teaming up with Flamingosis and Blockhead in advance of their North American tour together, we have opened up the vaults and let these two producers in for a very special crate dig.

Creating a sample pack by pulling clips, loops, hits, out of prior Loci Records releases a unique and exclusive sample pack was given to Flamingosis and to Blockhead and they each created a brand new song using only the samples in the pack.

'Union' is the 1st single available from Thoma's upcoming EP 'Salt Spring' (releasing November 15, 2019).

"This album was conceived and composed on a small farm, located on Salt Spring Island off the west coast of Canada. Isolated from broader civilization, we tried to capture the peace and the beauty of the place and the time.
In the process of making the album, we used only a small selection of interesting recordings and sounds that we had found just before traveling to the island, and added to these field recordings of our surroundings. The isolation we achieved was very helpful in allowing us to break free of our normal artistic routines and choices. While in a sense the pace of the project was intense, having been created in the space of only a few weeks, we blended our production process into our daily routines of swimming and
exploring the island such that we never felt overwhelmed." - Thoma
