Marshall Jefferson - Move Your Body [Tchami Tribute]

Randomer and L.I.E.S, back for another one: it makes a lot of sense. But "Juju" stands in contrast to the shrapnel 'n slime of our other L.I.E.S. Debut of 2015, or last year's crunching Residents. It's less an exercise in bucket-kicking techno weaponry, and closer to the complex yet oddly infectious sounds of early Bookworms or latter Shackleton.

The whole EP's a belter. Even a full seven years (seven!) into his career proper, Randomer's consistency has yet to taper off. Cop the next instalment soon: LIES063 sees release in September.

The second instalment of remixes of Jamie Lloyd’s debut album Trouble Within come courtesy of the excellent Drumpoet Community collective from Switzerland. The Drumpoet releases have been getting high rotation in the Future Classic offices since the beginning and its a pleasure to again make a new connection between our base in Sydney and another part of the world.

The Soultourist boat is crewed by Philippe Wüger (Thabo), Tobi (Foster), Ron Shiller, and Pascal Dubach (Big Clap), with the rowing done in shifts. The four met while DJing and hanging out at parties realizing that their cases were packed with nearly the same records and that they shared a common musical vision. Soultourist's first 12" was released on the Sonar Kollektiv after which they have contributed releases to Swiss label Bit Boutique and now of course the newly founded Zürich based Drumpoet Community label with their excellent Yeah! and Turn Loose EP’s.

The Soultourist remix of Jamie Lloyd’s You Out or In? is all class, with the sort of immaculate production and clarity we’d expect from spending all that time at high altitude, or perhaps an Autumnal dip in Lake Zürich? The bass is tight, the drums crisp and there’s musicality throughout (including some awesome keys) which we applaud!

Quarion was moving from Zürich to Berlin while doing this remix, and he thinks the results are revealing of this move, with a deephouse take on the nu-wave-of-rave he was enjoying during his first weeks in Berlin. A rewarding addition to the box or laptop of any DJ who enjoyed his excellent Karusu EP on Drumpoet.. or perhaps an introduction to someone new to keep an eye on!

Future Classic continues its momentum with the Future Classic Attractions 12-inch sampler from a full-length compilation of the same name previewing the immense quality of talent emerging from Australian shores. 

First up come the soulful broken beats of Eddit, known for his solid 12’s on Equatorial and Freestyle Records. 

The A2 Rumpski is a hip house jam from Meem with a chunky bassline dropping in the second half of the track reminiscent of early Morgan Geist. 

Flip and we are treated to Mutual Sigh, a sublime late night production by Deepchild (following up his recent Blackness of the Sea classic) in collaboration with Gauche. 

Touch Sensitive concludes the sampler with Body Stop, a standout slow burner of new school disco deepness.

Jamie Lloyd follows up his last12 inch Adori’s Kitchen with an EP of low-slung disco grooves, vocal cutups and great songwriting showing another side of this talented Australian artist. New York’s Brennan Green opens proceedings with his Movin’ Out remix, a tasty 8 minute slab of disco space funk with slippery squelching lead synth runs and cheeky breakdowns throughout. Jamie’s original continues in the 107bpm disco electric vibe with nice sounds and a cool sense of space. Flip for Zooptron, a quirky, chopped up party tune in the spirit of Jamie Lidell and All The Honey, a spaced out minimal disco gem in a Metro Area or Kelley Polar vibe.
