The Canadian-Norwegian experimental threesome Bjarte (drums, bass, vocals), Ronny (bass, guitars, synths, vocals) and Layla (vocals, guitars, keys) merge trip-hop, electronica, progressive-rock, grunge and a hint of new-wave, resulting in a categorically elusive lovechild known simply as Failed Athletes.

Despite whisperings of similarities to the likes of Tool and Portishead, FA consciously strive to avoid reewriting musical history, acknowledging their position on the shoulders of giants who have gone before them while unabashedly breaking new paths.

Failed Athletes do not care for the Theatre of the Stupid known as sports, but urge everyone to sink to their level where, musically, everything is permitted.

Lock up your inner referee and lend your soul some time and patience for the coming tracks...

This page is intended as an archive of demos and recordings I made with a number of bands in the early-to-mid 1990s between the ages of 17 and 21, whether as vocalist, or vocalist-guitarist. So, although the page is in my name this is just for convenience - I make no claim as songwriter in many cases and, as with most bands, the direction of sound and arrangement was always deeply collaborative. Which is a way of saying "it's not all my fault". 

These demos were all recorded to some form of tape, whether in a 24-track studio, or to four-track cassette. Sometimes they've been salvaged from cassettes. Hence the sound quality is often wanting. But that's fine. If these recordings mean something to you, you probably played on them and the low quality won't bother you. And if you've stumbled on them by accident, you either dig the lo-fi or you don't.

My name is Raül Peix, I live in Barcelona and Ralp is my moniker. I consider myself a technology enthusiast, from retro to modern, I love synthesizers, analog and digital, and I like electronics, glitch, sci-fi, programming, and DIY culture.
In my spare time I make experimental electronic music, produced with hardware and software, I use 8 Bit systems such as the Game Boy and I like to build and modify my own machines. I collect Game Boys and other machines and actually pretty much any device that crosses my path.
I'm currently working as part of a design, motion graphics and sound design studio called Device, and among other projects I'm co-directing an 8 Bit and Circuit Bending Net Label called Lowtoy, and an 8 Bit audiovisual collective called Distortled Box.
