This song is about that feeling of being really into something, be it a song, an idea, a fashion look, a social group, a band, a person etc. It was initially inspired by an 8 year old friend of mine who is obsessed with the game, Mine Craft. He didn't know what it meant to be obsessed with something, but once I told him the meaning of the word, he promptly stated that he was obsessed with Mine Craft. That's how I started writing this song:) It ended up being more about the playfulness in my romantic relationship, in the verses, but maintains some of the game and other types of obsession in the choruses:)

Program Notes: 
The title Corroded Communes is not a comment or vision on any outward
commune. It refers to what James Hillman called, the “Inner Commune”.
His thought explored that possibly communism was not possible until
humans learn to integrate their own inner communes first. If done there,
would show itself in the world. Hence the piece recognizes a possible
starting point and then attempts to consolidate and allow some voice to a

While composing music for the last 35 years, the composition Corroded Communes marks the first composi- tion Kraig Grady has written for the piano. Early on he found that the equal temperament tuning used in the west drained all of his creative drive. His interest in alternative tunings lead him away to use his own instru- ments to explore alternative tunings. A few years back though his friend, George Secor developed a tuning designed to play in all 12 keys but with a different approach. He approached the problem looking at both pure and chords that beat equally. This latter property the theorist and Grady’s mentor Erv Wilson had found to often sound remarkably consonant. Math cannot really tell us all that a tuning will do and it was only by play- ing in the tuning did Grady find that he enjoyed it. While later Secor “improved” on this scale, quite a few have paid noticed that there is just something “special” about this particular version tuning that a mathematical inspection just missed. Secor noticed this himself. Grady says unlike other tunings he has used for their new possibilities, it is in this case something quite conventional that he almost feels more than hears. With this, he parallels Lou Harrison who used a tuning called Werckmeister2 which he used in composing for convention- ally tuned instruments. Also when Lou Harrison who would say, “I wrote it in my tuning and I cannot help what tuning they play it in”. Fortunately this premiere will have a special piano retuned to Secors tuning

The Way We Feel- Somehow at Sea Mix

Gabby La La is a musician and songwriter who studied Sitar and Voice under Maestro Ali Akbar Khan for over 10 years. She earned a BFA in Sitar Performance from The California Institute of the Arts in 2001 and has since performed and recorded internationally both under her own name and with notable artists including Les Claypool, P Funk, Bernie Worrell, Prince Paul, Macy Gray, Snoop Dogg, and The Coup. 

La La has successfully completed three Kickstarter campaigns to fund creative projects including a Virtual Reality music video experience “We Love” (2018) which was a collaboration with award winning filmmaker and founder of ARVR Women, Siciliana Trevino. La La's video, "Candy Sandwich" was recently named "Funniest Video" at SPLIFF Film Festival (2019 ASMR Crafting with Sayuri and Gabby La La)

In 2013, La La formed the all girl band, Snow Angel, releasing an EP, double single and a full length album with critical acclaim and features in popular media outlets such as ELLE and Bust magazine. 

Since 2011, Gabby La La has placed focus on live performances and music videos in order to create an immersive experience exploring music, fashion and dance. La La has released 2 full length albums under her own name and is excited to release a double single produced by Hil Jaeger on Inside Voices Records on May 28th 2021. This offering will feature 2 songs inspired by her emotional sound healing concept, Black Rainbow. Within our darkest moments live our potential for joy and light-let your darkness be your blanket tonight.
