A robot awakes from a long sleep. In the darkness, his eyes open and contemplate a savage, thick and lush nature. The android goes in search to browse the space around him. It seems there’s no sign of life, animal or human… He quickly figures out that he’s surrounded by rusty devices, damaged metal and large dusty gearwheels. Wandering the remnants from another time, our hero, is now a true little machinist. He tampers, tinks and fishes around the mecanisms surrounding him in order to inject a new energy, a second life. Gradually, everything is gearing up, lights blink, cogs work again. It’s relaunching, it’s working well again. An amusement park re-emerges now from oblivion and comes gradually back to reality. The carousels’ shade is dancing in the starry sky, the humanoid is browsing the park’s aisles and contemplates what’s once was a place where shouts and bursts of laughter were clashing. Very slowly, but undoubtedly, the robot wards off. He casts a last gaze at this so familiar and unusual place that evokes memories, like a retrieved imaginary world. Soothed, he vanishes away, in the shade, leaving the park operating, witness of a retrieved liberty.
Tour de Manège is proud to introduce the culmination of years of work, the conclusion of a story started in 2013. Through this project, and more specifically this vinyl, we’re closing, at least for now, the interlude of this 5 volume saga. After the genesis in volume 1, “Le Train Fantôme” in volume 2, the “Freak Circus” in volume 3 and “The Wizards” in volume 4, we introduce the conclusion of this saga with volume 5 : “The Machinists”. Thanks to every contributor to the vinyl, to the Tour de Manège project et, last but not least, to the community that followed us for all these years. More than a musical adventure, it was a human adventure that started 9 years a go and lasts ever since.

Got To See The World (Feat. Lucile)

Back in 2018, Argentinian producer Fernando Pulichino released ‘Search of Indigo’ on Leng, a shuffling slab of colourful, Balearic-adjacent dub disco featuring his own distinctive lead vocals and backing vocals from Luca Gasparini. Six years on, the track returns renewed and refreshed thanks to a string of new floor-friendly reworks by LTJ Experience and Pulichino himself.

Fernando kicks off the EP with his ‘AM Mix’, an inspired re-invention that re-frames the song as a hard-wired, acid-fired chugger – all restless, razor-sharp TB-303 lines, low-slung bass guitar and sparkling piano riffs. On the digital version of the EP Pulichino has also offered up his ‘PM Mix’, a deliciously Balearic disco dub rich in colourful synth sounds, elastic bass, flanged guitars and sun-bright piano licks.

It's LTJ Experience’s trio of remixes that lie at the heart of the EP though. The Italian producer, real name Luca Trevisi, initially made his name as a downtempo and nu-jazz producer before perfecting a trademark style of chugging, slow-motion hedonism that draws influence from both deep house and nu-disco. His main Remix foregrounds many of these trademark elements, in the process delivering a bongo-rich chugger laden with delay-heavy bass guitar sounds, head-nodding drums, heady guitar loops and echoing vocal snippets.

On the Dirty Mix, Trevisi reaches for tight, short TB-303 ‘acid’ loops, a more sparse and heavy rhythm track offering a more heads-down, dubbed-out affair that should delight those who love late night and early morning hypnotism with flashes of wide-eyed sonic bliss. Then, to round things off, Trevisi delivers a heady, atmospheric and spaced-out Dub full of jazz guitar licks, bubbling electronics, vocal snippets and effects-laden bass. It’s a winning combination.

Following the recent release of Lady Paradox & Gadget's beautiful Mood Swings LP and all of the requests for the instrumental version, MJM decided to respond to the words of the people and release the Mood Swings instrumentals and those from the bonus tracks on the album. So we hope you will enjoy the production side of this project as much as the vocal version and dive deeper into the sequences and arrangements produced by Gadget which went on to inspire Lady Paradox's concepts and penmanship.

"I made the album this spring during an intense creative period back home in Stockholm. I was obsessed with my studio, I wanted to spend all my time awake there. I found out I was getting evicted from it, this sudden chock turned into a decision to do this album. It made sense, like an "end of an era" thing. I was pretty isolated back then, spending almost all my time outside of the studio with my daughter Bozi. She snapped the cover photo while I was picking out records for a gig. I never wanted to leave the studio during these months, but I realise now how the breaks with Bozi worked for the process - they gave me space to reflect on the music I was making. A Guyanese/Dominican born and raised in North London and now residing in a secret location known as Gadgistan. Born into both a musical family and community where music was always around and became Gadget's first love at a very young age. Besides dabbling with instruments and production equipment left around by his father or brother, Gadget became a young DJ/MC in the underground rave scene and was often a favourite at various showcases, party nights and radio stations. He began to get deeper into production and started building his own studio in order to take out the "needing favours" element, and he has never looked back since. Gadget is now a self taught Sound Engineer, Producer, Vocal Artist, Ghost Writer, DnB DJ, occasional promoter, founder and project manager of the Jazz Jousters collective and the @MillenniumJazz Music label.
