Dark Entries Editions is excited to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Italo Disco club hit “Walking In The Neon”. Performed by Peter Ricard, the alias of producer and vocalist Walter Beinat who began the studio project in 1979. His most popular song was the maxi-single “Walking In The Neon” released by Italian label Good Vibes in 1985. For this single Richard teamed up with the production duo of Gigi Farnia and Franco Rago known for their projects ‘Lectric Workers, Decadance, Expansives, and Wanexa.  Walking In The Neon was written by Rago & Farina with help from Chuck Rolando, member of Italian disco group Passengers. Arranged by  Italian disco pioneer Celso Valli who wrote club classics for Macho, Azoto, Passengers and Tantra, to name a few.  

On the A-side is the almost 9-minute “Club Version”, an uptempo classic that sounds like a dream encounter between mid-80s New Order and hi-NRG legends Patrick Cowley and Bobby Orlando. Dance floor-oriented and melodic in structure due to the evolving progression and soaring synthesizer hooks. Peter sings about “speeding through the cosmos, lightyears from the Earth” on a never ending search walking through space and time. The B-side features a shorter dub version with extended breaks and bass lines. Both songs are remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Pressed on neon orange vinyl, as it was original released in 1985.

DC Promo Tracks: Dennis Liber feat. Yasmin Kademian "Baila Exotica"

The newest single from Whodamanny’s Biloba sublabel of Periodica Records is “Volveràn,” a dark and delirious saxophonic strut given four different variations. In the Club version, gang vocals chant to the sky, pads hover like neon mist, and technoid synths twinkle through moonlit boulevards as basslines clad in black leather stomp over a futuristic disco dance. The Radio mix distills these characteristics into sorcerous display of pop songcraft, whereas the Dub goes elsewhere, omitting the sax completely in favor of delayed drum dynamics, cosmic chords climaxes, sunbaked guitar jangles, and vocals shrouded in a hallucinatory haze. And in a bold display of disco house minimalism, the Sax Only cut strips down to saxophone, bass, and drums, with accents of guitar and synth providing subtle pops of color. Third and final track from the forthcoming Kat Records 12" release, track B2 and probably my favourite of the bunch. I really went to town on this one, had a lot of fun adding layers of percussion, latin piano, fat brazilian horns and a whole new chorus to blend in with the sweet original, a long time fave track of mine by maestro Manfredo Fest. I hope you enjoy the results!
