This is a very special EP. As many might know Toy Tonics started as a sublabel of now sleeping German indie dance label Gomma records. Gomma, along with DFA, Output Records and a few other was known for a very ecclectic, different approach in dance music. On this LOST GOMMA MIXES EP you'll find 4 now lost tracks that came out about 10 - 20 years ago on Gomma, but fit very well in today’s zeitgeist again. Pete Herbert, In Flagranti and Jaques Lu Cont are featured. Who knows about modern disco - knows these producers. And there is a very special name here too: Nicky Siano. The now legendary New York DJ used to be resident at Studio 54 and other legendary NYC venues of the 1970ies and 1980ies. One of his remix works was for the Gomma records band The KDMS.

Ah, the good old bootleg, releasing a (back then) vinyl track that is basically a copyright infringement or could get you in a whole world of trouble if releasing under your real artist name. Most of these tracks are from the beginning of the year 2000 and most were produced by well known artists at that time, it's like a guessing game to who made the track based on the production style. All of these tracks are also vinyl rips and were very sort after due to a limited number run. I have made this mix in Ableton, cut and pasted bits, sorted out glitches and warping issues. Hope you dig the beats. x :)

Space Jams 100: The Reflex (Disco/ Funk) 🇬🇧

The badabing diskos crew digs deep once more and comes up with two downtempo indie-house monsters from label regulars Vinny Villbass and Sommerfeldt.

Producer, artist, sound guru and DJ Vinny Villbass hails from Oslo with releases on Eskimo and Trunkfunk. He has also worked with experimental electronic artist Pantha Du Prince and is a versatile performer and musician. Here he works with Sommerfeldt who has previously worked under various aliases on acclaimed labels such as Paper Recordings and Full Pupp. He is an equally prominent figure of the Oslo club circuit and both of these new tracks came together while eating basement fish (fermented trout that's been cooking in a bucket of brine in a basement for two months) in a wood cabin somewhere in the Norwegian mountains during the pandemic of 2021. Opener 'Back in Time' leans backward in both rhythm and harmony and creates plenty of space for its heavy claps and hypnotic vocal cuts. This alluring and artful groove is perfect for both sunlit beaches and dark clubs alike. As always with this label, it's a track that oozes musicianship and class. The equally fresh 'Basement Fish' goes even deeper but explores harder energies as disharmonic analog synth mayhem is held together by rhythmic vocals from the ever-amazing Toshybot who was once part of late 90s supergroup Tøyen. It's a rugged groove with tripped-out synth effects designed to bring all new vibes to the dance floor. Vinny Villbass & Sommerfeldt have hooked themselves a couple of beauties for this EP. The Paper Family has members worldwide, including Mexico City, so we thought we'd ask them to collaborate. They said yes, so the chaps have remixed each other's tracks and the results are as good as you would expect from two veterans of the scene.

First up, La Guardia De La Luz puts his foot four to the floor for a throbbing, trance take on nu-disco, complete with rave chords for the modern age on the amazingly titled 'I First Learned about Shelley's through a Magazine'.

Picotropico's 'Stoke On-Trent is not in Mexico City Remix' doubles down on the best title of the year, stripping the groove back as far as it will go. It slowly builds to a bubbling acid arp and those hands-in-the-air chords. Shelly's comes to Mexico!

Pico's original, Strangers, drops the BPMS for an acid-driven chugger. Hypnotic and deep, it's a wonky slice of psychedelic house that doesn't fit into any category but simultaneously fits into them all.  

The remix tag team continues as La Guardia De la Luz gives things more of a disco swing but keeps it low and slow, funky and freaky.

We love it when a plan comes together.

Was resident DJ at the weekly Blast Club in Chester since summer 1988, Quadrant Park Liverpool 90/91 , Sweet Chester , Elevate Bangor   etc etc  .. Now Djing at Electrik Disko every fortnight, and throughout the summer we are in the outside courtyard area in The Commercial Bar Wrexham. Nice sound system and great location ..puurfect.
