As I and millions of thinking people consider leaving a country which we no longer recognize, I'm filled with rage and sadness in equal parts. But there was a time when America rightfully beckoned to the world. 

Program #1: Young Rudolf is at the docks, nervous. He's set to leave Eastern Europe for Amerika, which shines like a beacon in his mind's eye. As the ship readies its engines and blows its horn, Rudy is overcome with sadness about leaving his Moravian homeland for the unknown. As the ship gets underway, Rudy gains courage and begins to see the journey as the romantic adventure it is. The ship reaches the ocean, which lobs dramatically, and steams into the unknown, with a seasick Rudy aboard. That's one program.

The alternate program can be viewed as funeral music... a setting for Tennyson's 'Crossing the Bar.'

Sunset and evening star,
      And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
      When I put out to sea,

   But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
      Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
      Turns again home.
