(uk)Sounding the promise of long days ahead and late nights to follow with its opening salvos, Chloé’s The Dawn heralds the return of the Paris-based DJ and producer, and a new dawn in her ever-evolving career.

Indeed, The Dawn is her inaugural release on her own label Lumière Noire, which she recently set up as a separate entity and of course for her infamous Rex Club night, which has since 2014 become a bit of a club house for Parisian electronic music fans. Operating Lumière Noire as a fully-fledged label will enable Chloé to release a new full-length album (of which The Dawn is the lead single) sometime in the next few months.

Over the ten-plus minutes of The Dawn, a spoken-word track languishes over melodic washes in a dramatic progression that evokes a novel, or noir-ish cinema – a method that the producer has taken a shine to since Take Care. This cultivation of the strange and the beautiful has become her calling card, putting her in a league with likeminded producers, who take the basic tenets of techno and inject them with their own singular poetic visions. A visual-arts analogue could be found in Noémie Goudal’s photographs which grace the EP’s cover as they will Chloé’s upcoming releases.

This stirring aesthetic gives The Dawn a slightly cerebral dimension, which is taken to new depths by Dixon’s stubbornly technoid remix. The Berlin-based whiz kid, who has over the last few years risen to the top of the international electronic music scene, inverts Chloé’s light-drenched, full-bodied production into a tense, captivating chiaroscuro.

The Dawn can also be explored via the “Chloé * IRCAM V2: The Dawn Interactive Mix” installation, which embodies Chloé’s music as an intimate interactive experience. It is one of the first offshoots of a constantly mutating collaboration between Chloé and the IRCAM Institution (www.ircam.fr/) that began in 2015.

Two years after cosmic-dub luminaries Peaking Lights surfaced on Dekmantel with their Sea Of Sand EP, the production pair are back with their debut LP for Dekmantel. ‘Escape’, their eight album to date, catches the Californian — now European natives — at their finest, replete with atmospheres of homemade-percussive dub, that sit alongside wondrous landscapes of electronic pop and placid krautrock-like hooks, all tied together by Indra Dunis’ composed and hypnotic vocal charm.

Exclusive The Imbeciles - Decider (Fort Romeau Remix)

Taken from their self-released and self-titled album The Imbeciles release the third installment of remixes as this time Deetron, Benedikt Frey and Fort Romeau took on remix duties for Decider. The Post Punk-band's idea was it to produce an album focusing and following a different musical approach than in the beginning of the band's foundation in 2014 and seperating itself from Punk's mainstream scene. The Imbeciles eponymous album was then finally released at the end of last year and followed by two remix EPs from iconic electronic music mainstays like Legowelt, C.A.R. Red Rack 'em and is, as initially mentioned, now followed with new works for the band's track Decider. Londoner by heart and currently residing in Berlin Fort Romeau made the decision to come up with a rather dark almost New Wave-ish version perfectly implementing the original vocals and guitar riffs to come up with a, Fort Romeau typical, eloquent piece of music that's made for the dark and sweaty floors of the scene. Michael Greene, Fort Romeau's real name, manages to perfectly balance out the amount of instrumental and vocal parts within the track and adds a rather (musically speaking) nostalgic vibe, which is in the sense of the band, whose album and music is meant to sound as  if “it could have been recorded four decades ago, in 1979 but without in any way being derivative or a 'soundalike'.“ Fort Romeau's remix does, indeed, not sound like anything soundalike from the 70s but the British adapted to the band's idea to produce a unique piece of music that has-hasn't-been heard before. 

The Imbeciles' Decider Remixes will be released on The Imbeciles on March 13th, 2020.
