Shine by Collective Soul was among the first Rock/ Grunge tracks I listened to, loved it, and worshiped it temporally, as well.

Early days those, yes, and Collective Soul was still a renegade band- truly rock- no traces of American Pop/Trad rock.

Shine as a song is an absolutely riveting amalgam of great lyrics and fine melody. Lyrics have always been an absolute differentiating quality for any Collective Soul song, absolutely any. 

In Shine,Ed Roland is in fine fettle with his trademark flawless modulation to a heavier baritone. Roland would go on to use this to great effect in the Band's later outings- specifically in songs like December, Reunion etc.

HInts, Allegations and Things Left Unsaid was Collective Soul's Sophomore effort. Each song is straight from the heart, you can feel the sincerity of the Roland brothers, Ed and Dean, and Matt Serlectic ooze through, as the album has a garage album, unadulterated feel to it.
