TR186 - My Secret Playground

This week's our guest mix is Pyrame. 
Physicist turned music and film Producer, Lausanne-born/Berlin-based Pyrame’s emergence into the electronic music scene is a story of wanderlust, dream catching and cosmic energy. A poet at heart, he takes the opportunity to create raw emotion through both his melodies and lyrics, when if you listen closely, are inspired by his endless adventures of the world around him. Combining elements of synth-pop, post-disco and progressive electronica, his DJ affair of building both his sound and his record label contains a touch of surrealism, heritage and fantasy, as his inspiration is pulled from the twists and turns of Greek Mythology.
His label, appropriately named Thisbe Recordings, comes from the myth of “Pyramus and Thisbe” which are mostwell known as the couple of ill-fated lovers by the ancient poet Ovid. Thisbe is an amphitheater where the voices of house and techno are being heard. Founded in 2020, it has gathered pace over the last couple of years, with releases from Radial Gaze, Semodi, Philip Lawns, as well as the first compilation of the label, called Black Ink, featuring tracks by Acid Washed & Arnaud Rebotini, Seb El Zin, Commando Variété, Rambal Cochet, Mount Kismet and Danton Eeprom.

Melómana opens the year with a compilation that brings together producers who have marked and defined the musical orientation of the label. Its reference 039 is not only a testimony of long-term work, it is also the announcement of what is to come this year 2024.

The compilation brings together songs by artists such as Panka Panka, Azaria, Yahaira, JGR, Jackwasfaster, Ludviq, Nick Hanzo, Macaulay, Mijo, Pastor in Vegas, Rubinskee, Ademarr, Joseeph. Established talents on the scene, as well as emerging projects, offering an approach as designed for the track as it is for home listening. Altogether, we find fused rhythms and rich soundscapes that lead us to an exploration as fluid as it is captivating. The album offers us a dynamic contrast that shows the versatility of a timeless project, created from talent, meticulousness and sonic coherence.

The level of production of these guys is intense but, on the other hand, the care of the sounds they release is at the level of those who do things because they want and with the time they really need. The tracks have strength and jump over the prevailing conventions, knowing how to avoid the most recurrent rawness and darkness, seeking dance
but without predictable tricks and without exceeding an understandable level of experimentation suitable for the dance floor.

We could say that each producer summarizes their intentions in this compilation, seeking novelty without losing nostalgia, that they play with the genre but without falling into predictable tricks, nor into the arrogance of those who get wrapped up in a genre or mannerism to demonstrate that They have personality. And this is just the beginning, because this year Melómana is going to bring us many surprises.

Ivan Fabra is an eclectic Barcelona-based DJ and artist who was first exposed to electronic music during the late 90s where he frequented clubs. 

He has skillfully mixed his wide music influences and demonstrates his deep love for creating atmospheric pads, groove bass lines and unique cosmic funky-disco sounds with the pure physical energy of club and dance floor sounds in his productions. His sound is defined by powerful drums and driving synths, with a unique touch and a strong ability to blend the past and the future. Sharing a passion for vintage analogue synthesizers.

Best known for his heady mix of nu disco, dreamy balearic, psychedelic house and synth-driven techno along with his ability to read the dance floor has enabled him to work a crowd either warming up with sleazy laid back grooves or ramping things up into peak-time misbehaviour and up into the stratosphere.

Many of his tracks have been remixed by artists like Prins Thomas, Gerd Janson, Alinka, Touch Talk, Manuel Costela, Alberto Melloni, Tech Support, Ainz, Mau Maioli, Sauco, Yuki Tosaya, Ella de Vuono, Vincent Inc., Something’ Sanctified.

He’s released on labels such as Internasjonal, Codek, Nang, Spa in Disco, Love Attack Records, Sprechen Music, Boite Music, Paradiso Records, CWR, Silhouette Music, Love Dogs, NightNoise Music, Emerald & Doreen to name a few.
