Dem Ones by Binker and Moses—tenor saxophonist Binker Golding and drummer Moses Boyd—was cut in the live room at Mark Ronson’s Zelig Studio and recorded direct to Gearbox’s vintage Studer 1/4-inch tape machine next door. Gearbox boasts that “the vinyl lacquers were cut directly from this original stereo master on Gearbox’s 1967 Haeco Scully lathe with Westrex RA1700 series amps, using a Westrex 3DIIA cutting head and Telefunken U73B tube limiter, Maselec master control and equalization and Audio Note monitoring equipment.”

This is the new sound of London jazz!

Welcome to Brainchild. We’re a volunteer-led, DIY festival bringing together young creative minds for a weekend of inspiration. For three days in July, we stitch together the bold and imaginative work of the people around us into a program of live music, jam sessions, spoken word, DJ sets, talks, workshops, film, theatre and installation art.

The festival is very intimate, with artists, crew and festival-goers all camping together – there are no VIP areas here. We push immersive and interdisciplinary art to the forefront and welcome everybody to get involved. Built up by friends of friends over the years, the atmosphere is warm, open and relaxed. Brainchild is the perfect place to let your guard down, try things out and discover amazing new artists. We hope that you'll find something you love this year.

Following the passing of jazz legend Yusef Lateef in December, Gilles went through the innovator's extensive back-catalogue going all the way back to the 1950s, pulling out some of his personal favourite tracks. Amir's 60 Minute Jazz Selection for Gilles Peterson Worldwide

Following the success of their debut EP on Lunatick Records earlier this year, South London jazz/hip-hop quartet Sumochief have once again teamed up with the UK based imprint to present a series of remixes from the acclaimed Sumobeats EP.

This is the second of these, by Lunatick Records very own Auxx.

The full EP is due to be released through Lunatick Records on the 28th of October 2014 with artwork from the talented Kristian Berge.

Binker and Moses release their debut duo LP Dem Ones on analogue vinyl record label, Gearbox Records

Binker and Moses are tenor saxophonist Binker Golding and drummer Moses Boyd - two of the most exciting young jazz musicians on the thriving London jazz scene. Originally meeting through double bassist/educator Gary Crosby’s Tomorrow’s Warriors jazz development programme, they have played together in various large and small format groups including recording and touring extensively as members of Zara McFarlane’s band.

Dem Ones is their debut recording as a duo and will be released as a 12” 180gm vinyl LP on 29th May 2015. The record has its roots in experiments between soundchecks and gigs while on the road with McFarlane. Over time these initial ideas and jams have become templates for improvisation, and with their echoes of late period Coltrane and Charles Lloyd are as listenable and memorable as they are full of invention and surprise.
