HopeStreet Recordings brings you a collaboration between Australia’s hottest soul voice, Nai Palm, and Australia’s heaviest rhythm section, The PutBacks, on that classic, classic joint Spanish Harlem. The Worm, a typically heavy PutBacks instrumental on the flip rounds out two smokin’ sides of Burn City soul.  

Jerry Leiber and Phil Spector wrote Spanish Harlem for Ben E King in 1960, but it was Aretha Franklin took it to number one in 1970. In 2013, The PutBacks and Nai put it down one more time on 8 tracks of tape with the production team at HopeStreet Recordings and you sure can take that sucker home on wax, but you’d better be quick. After all – this release has been 50 years in the making. 

The B side on this record is for the B boys. The Worm baby. Lots of songs fade out, but how many fade in? Yeah. That’s real. This kind of lowdown funky break is what the PutBacks really love to put the back in. Ouch. Will someone sample this already so it can go for longer than three and a half minutes?

This record is raucous and rich in the rawness. The drums, bass, and percussion gallop through Spanish Harlem and swagger through The Worm. The guitar and organ howl and huff. Simple production lets the musicians do the talking, and boy, Nai Palm can shout. Sweet layered harmonies over a dirty minimal rhythm track. “Gente” é o quinto disco de Leo Middea e será lançado através da editora francesa Pineapple French Pop. Este é o primeiro trabalho de Leo Middea a ter uma edição física, e com distribuição digital pela Altafonte Brasil. O novo disco foi gravado em várias cidades europeias e conta com a produção de Breno Viricimo, com a participação da cantora brasileira a residir em Portugal Mallu Magalhães em “Borboleta Efeito”, single que foi lançado em Março. “Gente” inclui também as participações da cantora Curandeira e do trompetista Béesau no tema “Balanço de Amor”, bem como de vários instrumentistas talentosos.

Em Julho o músico continua a digressão pelo país: no dia 5 de Julho atua em Mondim de Basto, no Favo das Artes; dia 6 vai estar no Porto, no Maus Hábitos; dia 7 atua em Coimbra, no Largo do Poço; dia 15 de Julho em Almada; dia 28 atua novamente em Lisboa; dia 29 atua em Grândola; no dia 14 de Agosto será a vez do Barreiro; em Setembro estará de regresso, desta vez no dia 9 no Funchal e depois dia 19 de Outubro atuará novamente no Porto.
 
No último ano, Leo Middea tem-se apresentado um pouco por todo o lado: Portugal, Brasil, França, Holanda, Inglaterra, Itália, Espanha ou Cabo Verde. O músico tem viajado pelo mundo acompanhado pela sua guitarra e as suas músicas doces e orelhudas – como Lisbon Lisbon ou Freguesia de Arroios, são campeãs de streamings nas diversas plataformas digitais. Binker and Moses leave the now behind and Journey to the Mountain of Forever.

Binker Golding and Moses Boyd will release Journey to the Mountain of Forever -  their second album for London record company Gearbox Records - on 2nd June 2017 in double vinyl LP and double CD formats.

When Binker and Moses’ debut album Dem Ones was released in the Summer of 2015 it kickstarted a remarkable year for the young saxophone and drums duo, who won a string of awards including the 2015 MOBO Awards: Best Jazz Act, Jazz FM Awards 2016: UK Jazz Act of the Year and Breakthrough Act of the Year and the 2016 Parliamentary Jazz Awards: Jazz Newcomer of the Year. Like the album itself, their festival and club performances received rave reviews and ever-growing audiences, culminating in a November 2016 UK tour with The Bad Plus. 

Journey to the Mountain of Forever is a story album about travelling from the known to the unknown. You can expect to meet with Shamans and Ultra Blacks and immerse yourself in strange rituals and echoes from the infinite.

Sessions for the new album took place on July 21st and 22nd 2016, resulting in 10 reels of tape filled with over five hours of music. Like it’s predecessor Dem Ones, the new album was recorded completely live from Mark Ronson’s Zelig studio by Grammy award winning engineer Ricky Damian. direct to a 1960’s Studer C37 1/4” tape machine at Gearbox’s studio next door with no edits or mixing. The vinyl lacquers were cut directly from this original stereo master on Gearbox’s 1967 Haeco Scully lathe with Westrex RA1700 series amps, using a Westrex 3DIIA cutting head and Telefunken U73B tube limiter, Maselec master control and equalisation and Audio Note monitoring equipment.

It’s time to take it back… Take it back and switch it up. This is no easy task. In the words of Big Daddy Kane ‘Aint No Half Steppin’. Fitting as Haynesy takes on the smooth operator’s VOX in this EP. He’s plucked some of the most influential artists of our culture and reworked their vessels to bring a classic sound while maintaining a current vibe. All this is seasoned by the South Coast turntablist DJ Jabbathakut. Layering his signature slices of funk via his Shure carts on this dope EP.

Big Mouth – First Haynesy takes on Whodini. Transforming the track to a tapestry of horns and guitar licks, he breathes fresh air into this classic. Patching it up for 2020 dance floors (Should they ever be occupied) while Jabba’s skills are ever-present gluing this banger together with precise cuts and scratches.

Let The Rhythm Hit ‘Em – If you’re going to remix the R you need to be to have beats. Luckily for Haynsey, he has an abundance and they’re all high grade. Somehow managing to keep that boom bap, while paying homage to the tempo and style you’d expect the G.O.D to rhyme on. Haynsey nails this remix while Jabz keeps his consistency on the cuts. This rework is bonkers!

Root Down – This couldn’t be reworked at a better time. Following the current nostalgia and media hype behind the Beastie Boys story, Haynesy steps in and switches the original with some serious funk for the boys to lay on. Consider a timeless classics pillow fluffed to the max!

Set It Off – An acapella that’s so dope it’s been present in many a scratch and hook over the years. However, you haven’t heard it flipped like this. A neck-snapping bass line is present throughout, complemented by a picked electric guitar while Jabz keeps the tempo by shredding a medley of Kane VOX.

I’ll House You – Never being a fan of this direction for the JB’s I welcomed a remix from someone like Haynesy. Not disappointing he replaces that old school House vibe with the funk he flicks seamlessly from his crates. Keeping the tempo true to the original, it’s replaced with a new take that’s been tried and tested on many a dance floors that will elevate your set to the next level.
