Welcome to Acid Driver main roads and high ways. This is a journey, in to sound! The first drop to fill your cup is a cutting age track. Ground breaking with Tadao Kikumoto’s legendary fleet of machines at full steam, transcending skeptical mind boundaries. One gets two TB303 patterns full of charm sweeping your mind over. A flexing TR808 box, backed by a gated TR707, triggering extra intelligent melodies and dragging special environments in to the song wile special effects stimulate your cortex membranes. A straight London City Jamaican style vocoder recorded by himself, tightens the sharp snare drum transients fill ins. The second drop on this EP’s a magic Funky flow, straight Chi-Town dance floor crate cowboy style.

In the five (five!) years since his cracking debut LP System dropped, the type of music Linkwood excelled at - a meld of sun-kissed house and loping LA funkiness - has become widespread, and perhaps even played out. So the decision to furrow a different path on forthcoming sophomore Expressions (due next week on Firecracker) makes perfect sense.
That being said, the warm tones prove hard to shake, and the precision of craft never truly goes away. What begins as straight techno chugger in the vein of The Field circa '07 gradually emerges from its tunnel into bright daylight. It's a coy move, us premiering this one: "Object" is a bridge. But coming from, and going to where? We've waited half a decade - one week more won't hurt.

Just when you thought you had figured out how Marquis Hawkes was going to play it with Houndstooth, he flips the table over to reveal his rougher side, scattering playing cards, drinks and finger-snacks all over the floor. 

The aptly-titled 'Raw Materials' sees Hawkes making a welcome return to the more primitive house rhythms for which he first became known for on his early work for Dixon Avenue Basement Jams. Highly influenced by house originators like Ron Hardy, Gene Hunt and Roy Davis Jr, 'Raw Materials' updates the form with modern production techniques whilst simultaneously preserving authenticity. 

The title track eases us gently into Hawkes' more edgy side, with dreamy vocals, dusty pads and deep 808 beats. The flip however takes no prisoners with two cuts of raw drum machine clatter flanked by strained vocal cuts on '‘Ave That', and primal analogue tones on 'Jerk U Later': deadly dance floor destroyers designed to drill straight to your core.
