In the middle of the summer Yeho, an Israeli musician coming from Tel Aviv, was wandering around Italy and randomly he found himself in the “Quintino Basement”, lair of Ninja Exotic Machine.
This casual encounter gave birth to three new tracks where the
duo’s downtempo and tribal style merges with Yeho’s crisp and raw vocal together with intriguing percussions samples extracted from live recordings of the percussionist Andrea Greco.
The result is an Ep called “36 questions” out on Pho Bho Records on the 14th of October.

Lau discovered Toledo Girl while looking for some Italo disco gems.
The melody had all the right ingredients to become a dancefloor banger. But it lacked power and a coherent arrangement.
At first, he just wanted to re-arrange the song but in the end, he created a new bass line, melody, and drums:  *Something New*
He edited this track during lockdown with a sweaty dancefloor in mind. So if you are looking for a new banger, this should be the one.

FREE CALL #13 : Cosa Rosa - Toledo Girl (Lau Tropico Edit)

When we started making premieres for Espacio Cielo, we wrote in a review that the Spanish imprint was considered one of the “labels to watch” amid the growing and steady Indie Dance/Dark Disco scene. A little more than 1 year and 36 releases later, we can honestly say that Parissior’s successful platform conquered its more than deserved place in the sun. Suitably, today’s review is about the remix of a track called “Light Over Darkness” by Levante-based producers Jose Rodriguez and David Dorvau who joined forces to present “Isolation”, a 5-track EP halfway between progressive and Indie dance accompanied by powerful collaborations made with love by Swedish musician JStaaf and the label boss himself.

If the original is a Trance-infused and trippy piece, Parissior’s remix is a more twisted and aggressive version full of distortions, guitar riffs, percussive elements, and arpeggiated vocal hooks topping rave-inspired breakbeats, delivering a sort of “darkness over light” interpretation.

Another substantial episode by Espacio Cielo, peeps! If you are still not familiar with its catalogue, we strongly advise you to catch up with it.

It is a pleasure to have a mix by @ofra85 on our record label today. The city of Rotterdam is a showcase for the avant-garde of electronic music, and Ofra is one of the leading DJs who is building the scene. She's the co-founder of Operator Radio with Marsman, as well as a music programmer, Dj and lecturer at Willem de Kooning Academy.

This mix is a clear example of what Ofra can offer you, contains an impeccable selection, from more 80's post punk sounds to the most modern and mysterious of electronic music, a good trip inside of Italo Moderni mixes. Speculation and anxiety fuelled much of her day-to-day; though little changed in her routine, the fear something would throw a spanner in the works continued to plague her mind. She was bound by ritual, in work and play, and anything that diverted from it seemed to throw her life into disarray. But that was no way to live; excitement came in spontaneity and surprise, knowing that everything could shift within a nanosecond...

After the success of their first SHOUTS compilation, which marked their five year anniversary as a label, Bradley Zero's Rhythm Section International are now stepping up for round two, bringing together artists from across the world and across the musical spectrum to showcase the sounds at the core of the imprint: past, present and future. On home turf, contributions come from the likes of James Massiah, Adam Pits and Yushh while across the pond to the West and the East, artists like Kareem Ali, Klein Zage and Soso Tharpa join the line up and, continuing their mutual relationship with Australia, they welcome POOKIE, Liluzu and more to the fold.

Created by producers & DJs Dori Sadovnik & Niv Arzi, Red Axes constantly defies classification while remaining a stalwart of the dance music scene beginning with the launch of “Break It!” an underground psychedelic electronic party series in Tel-Aviv in 2009. Red Axes have helped dancers around the world bridge the intersecting tastes between rock and electronic music, and are known for their dozens of EPs and albums across the last ten years as well as recent outings via Redrago (alongside DJ Tennis).Arriving hot on the heels of their latest EP for Phantasy Sound titled “Some Lights,” their mix for Bolting Bits showcases their singular vision – merging a kaleidoscopic range with driving tempos that demand listeners lean in and participate. In addition, Dori and Niv have been kind enough to answer some questions from the Bolting Bits team to learn more about their selections and how they’re envisioning the future of their long-standing project.

Hailing from the Belgian capital and as 1/3 behind the Şelale record on Second Circle, it's our friend soFa (@sofaholic) on mix 32. Interview (excerpt) down below.

MFM: Hi Chris, can you tell a bit about how you made your first steps in the scene as a DJ/producer?

SE: That was first by playing school parties only, and later by organising parties and getting booked by others in return. The usual game, but it was a bit easier as today since there was less competition I think. On the production side I am quite new to that. I started in 2018 only because I lacked time before that, I used to have a job as curator for an art festival and also digging for records kept me busy and excited for many hours every day. 

MFM: Earlier this summer saw the release of Selale on Second Circle, a collaborative project between you, Okay Temiz and Houschyar. Most releases you've worked on are collaborations. Is there a reason for that? 

SE: Yeh different reasons. It's much more fun to share the fun! I'm not a properly trained musician, I like to break rules, rather than applying them. Collaborating with people who know notes and harmonies allows to combine those 2 visions and the results are more exciting to my ears. I feel I have more to say by helping others to get their music right (or wrong) cause that's what all those years of digging after very specific records have taught me.

MFM: Any more projects lined up already?

SE: Yes, quite a bunch I produced with dear friends, Nyati Mayi, soon on Bongo Joe, CCCVVV with Clara Vellin on Strangelove Music and Sexo Y Fantasia with Da Boochie from Kiosk Radio on Glossy Mistakes coming up. There is also a solo record going to the pressing plant next week, coming out on Planet Trip in spring. It has guest singers, but I call it my solo record since I played the whole beats and synths by myself. Its probably gonna remain my only solo record for a while. I slipped into so many collabs and I'd like to focus on that. I especially love working with singers/voices and hopefully some day I get to produce a whole band project!

MFM: What are you hoping for to find in nightlife now that dancefloors are opening up again? Have you been thinking about this whole situation a lot at all?

SE: I am looking forward to seeing people smile and dance again! Party wise I would especially hope to find more groove and less hard music everywhere. I have the feeling the youth of today can only dance to hard stuff, I find that sad. Real music lovers can dance to anything. The whole situation is/was of course tragic for the nightlife sector. Especially for younger people who are in their best years to create a network of friends and experience adulthood for the first time. On a personal level I liked the time off. It allowed me to focus on a more healthy lifestyle and on making music. 

MFM: Cheers for contributing your mix! What can you tell about it? 

SE: I glued together the first half of it while on a roadtrip in Albania last month. Second half I did this morning in a rush. It's nice tunes, diverse and odd enough as I love. I don't care too much about the technical aspect, I just recorded a bunch of records I felt for sharing. In my opinion all that Dj thing is a bit overrated and way too serious. We are just playing other people's music afterall. There is an art behind that, but I feel it's getting lost more and more. For me it's not about the technical side of it, it's about adapting to people and still surprising them in an original way.

MFM Mix 032: soFa elsewhere

A one off mix compiled by Kiernan Abbott, comprising of the lesser played folk / pop tracks performed in sessions and released on independent or private labels throughout the 1970-1990s in Wales. 

Welsh folk music has always been a major collectors item, with many looking to Sain or Welsh greats like Tecwyn Ifan, Sidan or Endaf Emlyn. This mix focuses on the music made in bedrooms, garages and on radio sessions should they be lucky enough to salvage the recordings. It's in our nature as Welsh people to be the 'outsider' given our minority, and geographical or historic relationship with England. 

This mix is to celebrate the musicians and artists that crafted their own sound, using the passion and can do attitude that was required to bring their music to life.

From rocking it all over the globe to releasing a plethora of absolute yessmate bangers & a long player too, we're pretty thrilled that they have joined our family of music makers with their double A side E.P. 'Trans Pennine Express'.

GCP gets the party started and instantly takes you to 4am at Barbarellas Discotheque with stacks of throbbing-ness & pumping, laser reaching vibes whilst the boys take you down a wormhole of electronic music pleasure.

Condor jumps ships from Barbarellas & hot foots it over to Berlin to sweat it out in basement with only a smoke machine for company and tons of ravers. Pulsating synth surfs across a chubby bass with some slick as heck cosmic stabs making this a multitude of all that is good in proper dance music.

If the originals are on the dance floor then we made sure to go full on weirded out on the remixes and crikey they don't disappoint! ELLES totally flips the script on GCP and turns in a hazy, broken beat style electro groover with a full vocal giving it the sound of a lost track by A Certain Ratio. 

Psychederek takes the 'make sure to go really wonky!' advice we gave when sending the parts to Condor and matches ELLES with his full on acid tinged psych wig out rework. Th beat sure broken, the bass guitar punches, the old school piano thumps and the whole thing sounds like an amazing Andrew Weatherall remix from the mid 90's you never knew existed.

Something for everyone, from clubs to shebeens to after parties & beyond..

After a first volume released in September 2020 on Hard Fist, Argentinian Balam comes with “Chants of Pachamama (Part. 2)”, including a remix by Matias Aguayo.

This time Balam focuses on the experience around the ritual of magic plants that is practiced in the deep South-American rainforest. By mixing modular synth, stromping basslines, haunting vocals and real played percussions produced in his studio “Submarea” in Buenos Aires, he recreates a psychedelic trip from beginning to end.
