II. Collide

This piece is inspired by the perpetual driving pace of life in singapore— the work that never stops piling up and the body that never gets to rest. 

Taking on a minimalist stance, the piece starts with a motif that is developed throughout, all the while maintaining its locomotive like propensity that drives the music. 

In sections I featured playful interactions between instruments, juxtaposing jumping staccato textures with the smooth ostinato going on like a drone in the background. I also utilised polyrhythm and retrograde in displacing the motif, creating some rhythmic interest that also has impact on the overall texture. 

The piece ends with a tutti line that pummels through before ending on a single Bb, the culmination of all the tension and drive from before.
