On side A we have the main cut, 'Rosa Blanca', it could be said that we are talking about a very sweet track where we highlight the pads and the beautiful melodies dancing on a subtle bass line, a beauty. On side B we find 'Pool Party' more serious and forceful, with a more industrial and brusque sound, the stabs give the flavor and the background make you immerse yourself in an underground trip, to finish the bass line despite being hidden, this well present, fantastic. Congratulations on this maxi Mario, welcome to FINNEST.

Ready for another House track? How about some real house, from a time before the mp3 changed the game and before sync buttons even existed? Then we’ve got 4 for you this time around, all remixes from Blunted Dummies 1993 ‘House For All’. First up is Berlin-local Ruede Hagelstein with his atmospherically charged remix, taking the tone down just a bit giving the track multiple uses, from home-listening to mid-morning afterhour sets. Next up is DJ. T. who takes the energy up again with his remix. Heavy percussion and a solid bassline-drive give new meaning to the beloved classic. House legend DJ Pierre also tries his hand, keeping much of the original spirit intact, while modernizing and tweaking just enough to get to most out of it. Finally John Aquaviva closes the package with heavy kicks and that sweet low end bass we have come to love.

After the global success of their first EP of 2016, ‘On’, including remixes by Techno legend Paco Osuna and Chloé, Monkey Safari is the name on everyone’s lips, and summer lineups. Now they’re out with their follow-up EP entitled ‘Bernstein’ with two original tracks and remixes by none other than John Digweed & Nick Muir as well as Spanish DJ and producer UNER. This release showcases the German brothers’ darker side, combining deep trance-like rhythms with resonant sounds. At the same time, the release pulls you in with dreamy, head-in-the-clouds melodies, perfect for both sunrise and deep club sets alike.  

This release demonstrates Sven and Lars’ move into the limitless domain of the “experimental” since the launch of their new label ‘Hommage.’ As their career grows and transforms, it becomes more and more clear that they have found a medium in which to display their differing genre preferences and production styles. Monkey Safari is demanding the attention of industry heavyweights as evident by their 2015 collaborations with artists like Guy Gerber, Kölsch, Marc Houle, Wolf + Lamb, Josh Wink, as well as one of dance music’s most iconic producers, Moby. In 2016 the evidence of Monkey Safari’s growing allure is made clear by the two otherworldly remixes released on the ‘Bernstein’ EP. John Digweed & Nick Muir’s remix of ‘Plexus,’ brings in a more soulful, synthy take on the original. In UNER’s remix of ‘Bernstein,’ the Spanish producer’s musical training radiates through, making it a sure-fire hit this summer.

Duro’s co-founder Moises Ramirez aka Moisees is back with a new EP that follows up his excellent remix of Mijo’s “THXTASY” and his last release, Train Station Philosophy. Remixes from Middle Sky Boom and Younger Than Me complete this standout 20th package.

Mexico City artist Moisees has been building up a fine catalogue of edgy, machine made disco tracks that are full of alluring darkness. He’s garnered international press support as a result, as well as becoming someone DJ’s looking for an edge often reach for.

Opener ‘Midnight Raider’ is perfectly named: a late night tune with a sneaking sense of movement that roams through a desolate cityscape. Freaky synths and filtered sounds are unusual and draw you in. His other original is the brilliantly original ‘The Death of Hope’, a psyched-out deep techno cut with disco colour and astral synths. It’s a track that slithers ever deeper down the rabbit hole and melts your mind with a hypnotic lead synth sound that sounds like little else.

Middle Sky Boom is label boss of Unterman and based in Tel-Aviv. His music has come on Rotten City Records and Days of Being Wild and here he flips ‘Midnight Raider’ into a spooky, mid-tempo chugger with freaky vocals and glassy synths. It’s brilliantly weird and wonderful.

Remixing ‘The Death of Hope’ is Younger Than Me from Milan, an associate of Tusk Wax, Bordello A Parigi and XXX. His vital version echoes with a late night mystery. Phased bass and percolating riffs ride up and down the scale as icy hi hats add to the infectious groove. Weatherall et al will surely approve.

These are four fresh, unusual tracks that bring plenty of new ideas to the alternative disco world.

INT01 is storytelling in its fine, sincere and genuine form, segmented into four distinctive and equally compelling tracks that naturally occurred upon graciously pushing sounds and nurturing instincts. 

Discontrol starts off with a sprightly rhythm, restless bassline, warm claps and mischief, emitting anxiety and exhilaration at the same time. Saturating aural space with industrial groove, rock chic and grungy distortions, A1 diffuses busyness through trippy vibrations, moist curls and locomotive riffs, converging human and machine in deft arrangements that delineate music from mere noise. 

A2 Bonaire is a gateway to a kaleidoscope of curious landscapes and labyrinths of seductive harmonies careened by sweeping melodies and polyphonic collisions that replicate and gratify incessantly. A suave Spanish infused lament cascades over the title track, seeping into its intricacies, and like “bon aire”, it is persuading and pervasive not just of the body, but right through the soul.

Over on the flip side, B1 Sowell teems with gusto from the get-go as robust bass and bright-pitched percussion usher in wistful piano chords through a luminous climax. The affecting quiver over this dashing 7:08 minute electronic ballad and its dauntless vibrations penetrate deeper as the enigmatic gender-neutral – or universal rather, vocals vindicate higher. All is, so well. 

Moqueta, boasts a fetching hook, effusive recoils, harrowing synth elongations, and a climactic drop that feeds euphoric dreams. Adrenaline rides high in this finale fueling victorious ambitions with playful rebellion – just what it takes for an iconic dance track to sound even better with time running up and down the stairways of motion nirvana.

Carrer Bonaire EP is a mosaic of sounds traversing an infinite spectrum of emotions, handwoven by Interpret masterminds, Upercent and Santiago Garcia, with meticulous detail and quintessence through to the EP’s finish. But not to fret, Interpret is not only off to a good start. The label is here to stay, til imaginations run dry.

A lot has happened in the last 20 years of dance music, but one constant has been Get Physical right at the sharp end of the scene.
