This February we bring to you a groovy, idm set by UK artist Mattr, whom we had the pleasure of supporting with two premieres in late 2020. It's both an uplifting and warm mix of triphop and grungy idm sounds, perfect for the times that we currently live in. While half of the world is not just experiencing winter but also a pandemic, we feel this set really sets the tone for this winter with a genre that we are really into these days. With its timeless progressions and groovy breakbeats, it makes these wintery moments quite enjoyable. Mattr brings with him a quality and classy set to fill this space for us on Getting Deeper, and we are very thankful to have the opportunity to host his mix. Mattr aka Matthew Clugston is a leftfield house, breaks, and techno producer as well as a superbly talented motion graphics artist from Birmingham, now living in London. With residencies dating back to his hometown at Code with Steve Lawler as well as supporting gigs for Sasha & Danny Tenaglia, Mattr would share decks with the likes of Tale of Us & Jamie Jones before hosting his own events with fellow innovator and Getting Deeper favourite - Alex Banks - as well as Maxxi Soundsystem, and XXXY, to name a few. It was from there that he made the move to Berlin to study music production & performance and where he'd form a friendship with label partner, Max Winstanley (Lewyn Stan)who he paired up with to launch their Helical Scan imprint.

After years honing his sound, Matthew went on to release his first album along with several other productions on Faceless Recordings, TrippyCode, Ozono, and CRR, garnering support from Amé, Guy Gerber, Anja Schneider, Nick Warren, Rodriguez Jr, & the legendary Laurent Garnier.

25 years after first cutting his teeth DJing tech house & breaks, Mattr's broad musical palette often draws him closer to the more emotive side of electronic music, finding deep resonance with forward-thinking artists like Max Cooper, Jon Hopkins, Tourist, Overmono, Fourtet, Phon.O and Radioactive Man, whom you'll often hear in his consistent & beautifully diverse mix series. 

With two recent fantastic EP releases on his own imprint Loft & Sound - 'Antigenic Drift' & 'Salix' - from which we premiered Cygnus & Spiel, Mattr now treats us to a very special exclusive guest mix.

Founded originally as a boutique electronic music blog in 2012 in India, now crossing borders in Berlin, Getting Deeper has organically grown and consistently delivered authentic music with genres such as deep house, deep tech, minimal, IDM, downtempo, trip-hop and techno.

Lush vibes, melodic intricacies and sublime mindstates are places we constantly strive to reach through the music we publish. We also like to encourage escapism, philosophical meanderings and sometimes indulging in the dark side of things. In simple words, we like to get deep.

Based in Kernow ( Cornwall ) For me its the music and the connections it makes. Expect some genre bending electronic music - Breaking the grid both vertically and horizontally but attempting to still be listenable.

I like to synthesise most things and I prefer uncompressed mixes and masters. If its quiet its probably meant to be a lullaby.
