'Nils Frahm is one of the best artists out there in my opinion, with pretty much the best live show I've ever seen. But aside from all that, this was just a really enjoyable remix to work on because the original is such a great piece of music, and seemingly so well suited to what I wanted to do with it - which was to try and turn Nils' instrumental jam on his Juno, into something house/techno/club/44 compatible, but still carrying the class and feeling of the original. It was one of those remixes that just seemed to fit and flow easily, with minimum strain and maximum enjoyment on my part - usually a good sign for a remix (the one's that have to be forced never seem to quite get there).

Not only is this one of the best remix projects I've been lucky enough to be involved with, it's also available totally free for you to download and share as you like, courtesy of Erased Tapes and Decibel festival where myself and Nils played last weekend, as well as XLR8R, who were good enough to first feature the 'For' remix.

Here is Modern Amusement Podcast 03...I was enjoying a caipirinha in my hotel room on my last night in Sao Paulo this weekend, when I heard a rapid metallic knock at the door…   Thinking it was an errant room service, when I opened the door and saw nothing I was shocked…

Until I heard a series of bleeps and tones and a shiver coming from the ground and looked down.  I was surprised to see b6 the backwards motion robot again.  He was shivering and cold to the touch and his outstretched claw held a disc labeled “Lee Foss – Modern Amusement Podcast 03”   below was a a message from a future me that this was a recording of an old school house set from the early 2000's played at the 2088 Neptune Ball.  While excited to see more evidence that in the future both time travel and planetary colonies are possible I was disappointed that once again there was no tracklisting on the disc.

Getting Deeper Podcast #61 Mixed By Orbs & Zen

Germany’s Rolandson has, for Getting Deeper’s 62nd podcast, given us a set that truly resonates with the blog’s essence. There is something very transient, transparent and intense about it – a depth that Getting Deeper constantly strives to reach.

He has, with this set, not only given us a deep sound but has also woven words around it. It comes with a back story that lifts the set to a more intense level, giving it a wholesome shape and a more intelligent personality. It’s really impressive how Rolandson has given this entire thing – this movement so much heart. The set, as he tells us, is a part of a series of podcasts going under the name of ‘En Resa.’

His set for Getting Deeper is called ‘en resa till den djupaste punkt, Marianergraven.’ It’s the 6th part of a journey to the deepest point – The Marianergraven, which is a deep water channel in the Western Pacific Ocean, with a maximum depth of 11,034 meters and a length of 2400 kilometers. Rolandson tells us that he is fascinated by the underwater world and he yearns a piece of the quiet that reigns down there.

His set for Getting Deeper is that deep, underwater space turned into sound. The vision is of crushing waves and deep sea waters and the emotions associated with it. He tells us that with this set, he meant to make these feelings a more intense experience by making them deeper and warmer. And so, the end result is a journey with the artist to the deepest points of sound, life and his soul.

We love it. Not only is the set everything we hoped for, but it goes much beyond what it is made of. It’s a perfect tribute to what Getting Deeper stands for, and we are really happy to be a part of Rolandson’s own personal journey through sound. Thank you Rolandson for such a heartwarming effort!

Getting Deeper Podcast #62 Mixed By Rolandson

Getting Deeper’s 63rd podcast takes a significant shift from some of the more deeper sets we have been releasing lately, but it’s a welcoming shift nevertheless. Germany’s Ben Sachau and Lennart Vonau, together known as Artenvielfalt, best loved on Getting Deeper for their lovely remix of Alt J’s Tessellate and their Nalu Nalu mixes… have given Getting Deeper the pleasure to publish a set by them for its 63rd number in the podcast series.

Soulful tech is infused with some industrial sounds in this one. It takes me back to the initial days of Getting Deeper during summer. We had a lot of soulful stuff back then… lots of nice, warm tones and deep beats. And it’s nostalgic to listen to Artenvielfalt’s set in that respect.

Artenvielfalt have created a really nice progression with it. It’s almost as if the progression represents an open air party beginning with warm tones during the day, eventually moving on to grungy, dirty sounds and ending with soulful beats. That entire experience has been condensed in a 1 hour banging set.

The end result: A sultry set with a lot of good vibes, perfectly balanced… and great to remove your dancing shoes to get a little dirty with. We hope you enjoy :)

Martin Saupe aka Ton Elite has been on GD’s podcast list for a very long time. His set for Room84 really gave us a feel of what we wanted to publish in the future. And we loved him, especially because of his ability to create sets with a consistent vibe that is intense, mysterious and sometimes very melodically dark.

TonElite is one of those artists who have a strong musical personality. And that’s why, it’s hard not to play anything that is released by him. This is because his style is far from confused.  He knows exactly what he likes and he knows how to deliver that in a complete and tight package whose individual characteristics compliment each other. And so, when you think of listening to him, you know exactly what you will get… and you will be satisfied.

In this case, those individual characteristics are his set’s track selection, mixing and ultimately the vibe. His 64th podcast for Getting Deeper is a very underground (literally. Think dark, sweaty underground rooms) and industrial set. It begins with deeper, slower sounds and eventually moves on to harder, pulsating beats that will send you to sinister trips.

We love it. We love the mysterious and classy extravagance that comes with it. It’s a witching hour of musical madness that discreetly creeps on you. If that is your appetite, and we know that these kinds of appetites are very rare, you will love this set. We really hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.

Getting Deeper Podcast #64 Mixed By TonElite

For Getting Deeper's 70th podcast, Kai Hillman has given us a beautiful and clean deep tech set perfect for long drives. 

What you will find is deep, repetitive music laced with swirling, spacious melodies arising from a post-techno style. Which means that the set embodies softer, deeper sounds that contemporary techno carries, as opposed to old school, raw techno that is more fast paced with harder edges. 

It is that repetitive character in the set's functionality that makes it so timeless. Subtle transitions and hypnotic melodies make it an absolute must for any kind of journey. It's slow and steady with grandiose stretches, just like a long therapeutic drive in a big but empty city late during the night. The set captures that feeling of being comfortably lost and provides an accurate snapshot of the drive that quite often accompanies that feeling. 

It wouldn't have been possible without a good hand that knows how to work with the technicalities of mixing sets. Kai has, indeed, made a set that is mixed in such a way that it never loses its balance. The result is not many tracks, but one deep and timeless sound... swirling around its own axis, and gently taking you into the cosmic world of deep, lush techno. 

And that gives the set a clear musical identity.We love it.
