"The Sound Of Connaisseur" Radio Show #001 by Olderic - May 4th, 2015

Don’t think the fact that you’ll be spending your weekend getting beamed in the face by beach balls and railing sunscreen necessarily implies that shit can’t get at least a little bit cerebral when you’re out in Palm Springs for Splash House. 

As multinational deep house  TACHES’ Splash House Session mix shows, there’s plenty of room for headier themes that keep a laid back vibe. For example, acts unknown in the dance world like The Books and Blonde Redhead sit very comfortable aside choice house cuts from the likes of Dance Spirit and Butch. Even The Zombies’ flower power folk-rock classic “Time of the Season” gets an outing, albeit via an M.in & Suptil edit.

Danny Daze is a producer whose music has effortlessly traversed the spectrum of sounds within house and techno. With releases on Minus, Ellum and Kompakt to name but a few, the boundary pushing entrepreneurial producer returns to Jimmy Edgar's Ultramajic imprint with two pounding club ready tracks with the deadly, Dual EP. The A side, Ready2Go, shows of Daze's ability to craft an intricate, hypnotic detroit influenced dance floor roller, where as Rhythmbox goes straight for the jugular on a full on tear-out warehouse tip.

Midland is a quiet and reserved character but one that always makes a big impact. Despite only being active for a few years, he is already someone who resides in the upper echelons of the global house and techno scene. This is evidenced by the fact that as a DJ he plays only the most revered places, and when he does so he manages to reach far and wide, calling upon many different electronic sounds without ever falling prey to modern trends. It is the same when producing on labels like Aus and his own Graded, where his records are functional but fun affairs with corrugated drums, rugged bass and physical grooves that never fail to arrest a dance floor’s attention. This mix he has served up for us is another fine example of that. 

Starting off in an abstract world of atmospheric sound and smeared chords, it’s not long before Midland establishes a groove that then grows in stature for the next hour. Atop the always physical drums are all manner of cosmic melodies, soul fuelled pads and spryly percussive patterns. Touching on house that ranges from dark and mysterious to more sun kissed and playful, this journey feels much long than it is because of how much Midland manages to so masterfully pack in.

Experiencing the Playa at night is the quintessential Burning Man experience. The untamed energy, the chaos, the sensory overload, the cacophony of sounds coming at you from all angles, all mixed with the extreme weather conditions the desert throws at you - it is pure pandemonium in the best sense of the word. It made me feel small and insignificant - in a good way. As my ego faded I more and more felt at one with my surroundings, ready to love and contribute.  As I started playing the bus pulled out of the camp. A surreal scene that reminded me of the Pied Piper unfolded - hordes of burners following the iconic heart into the open desert. But where I had anticipated the Robot Heart set to be a big "me" - moment, it felt quite like the opposite - just adding my small voice to this large and beautiful orchestra that is Burning Man. And that is how pretty much my entire first Burning Man experience went. And it's exactly this what makes it the best place in the world.

Music has to tell stories or get us into certain moods. This is what I do with my mixes. I started making mixes for selfish reasons, I mainly make them for myself. Therefore every mix stands for a certain mood of a particular time.
My music is influenced by deep house and tech house. I always try to include many different styles whilst still having an overall theme in every mix.
I'm not a professional DJ and so I want to take the opportunity to thank my listeners for their loyalty and that they have always encouraged me to continue.

Wenn er nicht gerade in der Kombüse einen Wasserschaden verursacht oder im Rumpf unseres Schiffes heimlich Tracks bastelt, dann stellt er träumerische Mixe zusammen. Sie bilden mit den Lichtspielen am Himmel eine wundervolle Symbiose und lassen uns hinauffliegen oder besser, darin abtauchen - abtauchen in eine für ihn teilweise surreale Unterwasserwelt, welche ihn den Rest um sich herum vergessen lässt. So träumen wir gemeinsam an Deck, schauen den Lichtspielen zu, gehen Tauchen und geben uns hin. Wir haben uns eben über jene Tracks gefunden und stehen seitdem in einem regelmäßigen Kontakt und planen ein zwei Dinge für die Zukunft - ihr dürft gespannt sein - ein ereignisreicher Seasidetrip wird es allemal - so kommt an Bord, lauschet seinem »dip into it and float away« mix und lasst auch andere an diesem Erlebnis teilhaben.
