We are very proud and excited to share this special episode of our Podcast Series recorded live by Christian Duka at the lovely SONIC GARDEN gathering that happened at one of London’s most inspiring experimental music venues IKLECTIK last month 🌿

Christian is the founder of immersive art and 3D sound non-profit organisation Amoenus, a sound artist and a long-standing friend of Introspective Electronics. He previously delivered collaborative mixes for our Podcast Series as part of MARMO and Vādin and we are over the moon to finally have him release a solo journey.

In this chapter, Christian merges his signature flavour of psychedelic ambient with atmospheric dub, downtempo and heady leftfield experiments. This journey feels like a night wild with dreams. It’s droney interstellar initiation inconspicuously metamorphosing into sensual dub intertwined with deeply hypnotic wormhole loops and warm, tribal-infused rhythm sections stretching across wide spatial expanses. There is nothing left to do but listen with all your might for those moments of magic that are packed tightly across this sonic canvas ✨🔮✨

Podcast Series 16 | Christian Duka

One of the leading figures in the 'new generation' of drum'n'bass producers, Cluj-based Eduard Costea, better known as DYL, has been on our radar for quite some time. His last year's collaboration with Synkro, 'Empty faces' EP, on Swiss record label re:st, is still one of the most played releases here at Delayed HQ.
After numerous guest mixes that we heard from DYL and many episodes of his radio show, Echo, we were excited for a reason when Eduardo sent us his vision of the 'Delayed with...' mix. This one-hour journey is programmed to perfection. DYL sets up the atmosphere in the first quarter of the mix with a couple of lush, cosmic ambient tunes and takes off with GiGi FM's '22 Tear Drops'. From that moment, DYL travels to the dark side of  halftime drum'n'bass and creates a perfect after-hours atmosphere, eventually finishing the journey with some crème de la crème leftfield electronica. This is a proper late-night eclectic journey.

For this second episode of Chimaera for Lyl Radio, we invited a dear Milano Artist, Atoloï. his productions and mixes search for other depths, in which the listener can get lost in a dense "no boundaries" journey between the worlds of dance and meditation.

"When i started thinking about the way i could build this mix i had a completely different idea of it in my mind, in fact, i was planning to create a deep and fast-paced broken beat mix, like a continuous flow of rhythms directly polarized to the body. After actually starting, things took a completely different route, leading me to go search in that gap that links the mind to the physical world, the whole process of losing ourselves to search for a higher state as a Sufi that dances in a full trance. So, as an ecstatic experience, the mix grows slowly from a dreamy and crystal clear ambiance to deep and gritty sonorities, reaching its clue point with rattling percussion and cutting the silence with twisted rhythmic patterns. That fair of sounds won’t last much and just right after touching the peak, it will come back to nothing, concluding the mix without any kind of goodbyes."

Life films us exactly. Our experience of it, though, lies beyond images and descriptions. Emotions, coming in irrational flashes, are non-figurable. We lose our little connection to them very quickly. We look for forms with this in mind : so they can take us to meet the subconscious. Chain reaction was a sublabel of Basic Channel founded in 1995. Peter Kuschnereit aka Substance, René Löwe aka Vainqueur, Torsten Pröfrock aka Various artists and Resilent, Andy Mellwig, Thomas Köner aka Porter Ricks, Gerhard Behles, Robert Henke, Torsten Pröfrock aka Monolake formed some of the artists of the now defunkt label.

Chain reactions is a mix tribute to the label / 1995-2003, it is influenced by glitch techno, dub and ambient. Sounds of CR are captured within tiny fragments of time and then within one’s mindspace. I think it’s important to play this mix on a decent system so you can really hear and feel the interactions between the delays, the warm basslines and the soundscapes that surrounds them.

Die verwendete Music von Chain Reaction ist dabei vollkommen subjektiv motiviert verwendet worden. Um der Musik gerecht zu werden sollte sie auf einer angemessenen Stereoanlage abgespielt werden, damit die Wechselwirkung zwischen Delays, warmen Bassläufen und den alles umgebenden Klangkonstrukten erfahrbar wird.

Akio Suzuki constructed the Hinatabokko no kukan (Space in the Sun) in 1988. This space consists of two huge parallel walls, in between which the artist can sit all day and purify his hearing by listening to the reflected sounds of nature. This space leads the artist to discover a new method of listening. Suzuki himself comments, "Sound, which had been conceptually imprisoned in various spaces, is freed to circle the world."

as we become temporally removed from moments in life, our memories of these events fade. details morph and evaporate, the once-vivid colors, sounds, and experiences increasingly washed out and out of reach. is that conversation or that dance truly remembered? or is it an unconscious invention of the mind intended to maintain a ‘complete’ memory?
this human capacity to misremember and to subconsciously reinvent memories has long enthralled me, and this mix is an exploration of such phenomena. rooted in three environments i inhabited two summers past – the parks in and around berlin, my flat in moabit, and late-night u-bahn rides to and from dancefloors – this assortment of tracks aims to encapsulate both my concrete recollections and my hazy half-notions of the events that transpired therein. imbued (i hope) with an awareness of the mystery of misremembrance, it is an ode to the people and places that made that summer so formative and liberating.
