Barcelona-based composer and multi-instrumentalist Jaime del Adarve announces the release of Las Horas, an intimate and delicate collection of pieces for piano and strings.

Las Horas, which translates to The Hours, is a purposefully ambiguous title. It may refer to the divisions of the day, like in La Amanecida, an Andalusian word for dawn Jaime learned from one of the coplas his grandma used to sing. This septet piece captures the passing dynamics of the day, drawing inspiration from Baroque violin concertos, where the individual voices merge into a joint message.

The EP’s title could also talk about the Greek goddesses of the seasons, like Eirene (Peace). She is reflected in La Quietud, a poignant piece for felted upright piano. But most importantly, the title refers to the representation of these goddesses on Earth—the women that nourished us and held us on their laps, Las Haldas. This heart-waming piece for piano and string quartet tries to capture that welcoming feeling of safety when we've ached, and we are held.

Las Horas releases on the 23rd of February 2024, featuring paintings by Conchi Escamilla, Adolfo Lozano Sidro, and Snorri Arinbjarnar, and graphic design by Celia Bayo.

I had probably been playing for at least a couple of months when I wrote this, so please forgive the tinges of adolescence in this piece. It is a solo piano piece recorded with a very inexpensive portable cassette recorder.

Endless (Piano Day 2020)

Gianluca Piacenza is an italian composer, pianist and sound designer.
Academically trained in Piano and Composition, winner and finalist in national and international competitions, he appears in concerts both as soloist and as chamber music partner. Influenced by both the great tradition of classical music and the electronica/ambient scene, in 2014 began working on his first album “Dream”, an emotional and cinematic work in which he first experimented acoustic piano and live electronics interaction.
Today he works as music producer at Red Couch Studio, an inspirational space in which analog and digital equipment, acoustic and electronic instruments are equally important to develop a unique sound palette.
His sonic world could be described as a blend of acoustic textures, recorded and processed live in many different ways, and electronic soundscapes, created manipulating natural sounds and programming synthesizers and samplers, lately focusing on minimal solo piano music where the spaces between notes are as powerful and meaningful as the notes themselves.
With four official Piano Day playlist features and many great reviews from across the music world, Gianluca Piacenza creates music that goes straight to the heart of the listeners, filling their minds with cinematic landscapes and their souls with calm and peacefulness.
