We are so excited to announce that Gimme A Break’s “WE ARE VIABLE” compilation will be released on Friday 13th November!!!! Over the last few months we have been extremely lucky to work with 15 producers from Leeds and further afield to curate an album of UKG, breakbeat, techno and jungle edits. ALL of the proceeds from this compilation will be donated to MAP, a Leeds-based charity providing alternative music education to young people who cannot access mainstream schooling. In these trying times, we must support charities such as MAP which are integral to the North’s creativity and vibrant music scene.

Finally, we’d like to say an enormous thank you to Alex Kubis and Ben Mercer who have designed the pengggg album artwork for this project. So happy with how these have turned out! Whack those coordinates into google and see where ya end up :)

WE ARE VIABLE

Today we are launching The Edit Room, a series in which producers are invited in to remix a popular song.

For our first edit, Manchester-based Slim Shae has whipped up a steaming electro remix of Ojerime’s Give It Up 2 Me. With bouncing basslines and crispy drums, Shae follows on from his previous release on The Lock In compilation released by Leeds-based label 199. Looking forward to sharing more edits with you every Wednesday!

The Edit Room returns and this week we’ve got a saucy remix from our dear friend Robert Nutter. By day you might find this indie-rock sensation holding a guitar or behind a cajon. But by night, surrounded by his assortment of synths, BootlessBob transforms into his alter ego, a dangerously talented producer known as BootlegBob. 

For this edit Nutter has delved deep into his trap collection to remix Future’s Mask Off. Sliding synths and popping toms fuse in an unsettlingly relaxing remix of this classic hit.

For our third release in our Edit Room series we welcome another close mate and Ableton extraordinaire Josh Richards. 

You might recognise Josh’s music from our intro video, which features his 1 Thing remix, as well as his ridiculously filthy Hollaback Girl flip which blew up on Soundcloud a few months back. 

In this edit, Josh has delivered once again. Rave-ready keys and light breaks make for a spicy remix which Christina herself would undoubtedly be proud of.

Manchester born and Sheffield based @mean_e debuts on GAB Records with his latest single: ‘Not a Beyoncé Remix, I Promise’. Having kickstarted his endeavour into music production working with labels such as Lobster Theremin, CYBERJIT and more recently, Jerry Horny for their first compilation, Mean-E is no novice. Being a predominately Electro orientated DJ, in his latest tune, Joel takes some breaks and some Beyoncé, expertly fusing them together with deep, punchy 808 sub basses and choppy percussion for this 160bpm breakbeat sheller.

Papa Nugs has become a major player within Leeds' Garage scene over the past few years, mainly through his DJing. However, recently, Nugs has honed his production skills, allowing him to release on a range of labels including Dim Sum Records, ec2a, 199 and Action Replay Codes. As well as this, his first vinyl release is forthcoming on Puresa Records. For this release, Papa Nugs has cheffed up a nasty edit of Tokyo Drift. Gimme A Break Records is an up-and-coming Leeds-based label representing UKG, breaks, electro and jungle. Following their popular edit room series, GAB is currently curating a compilation to raise money for MAP Charity.
