During the week of Girls Rock Camp Jacksonville 2013, volunteers (with and without musical experience) were asked to sign up to write, cover, and perform songs at a showcase to raise money for next year's camp. 

Since band formation (which began in early October 2013), the women involved had an opportunity to stay connected outside of camp, while working together to do something out of the norm. Some women learned to play instruments for the first time. If they did have musical experience, they were asked not play what was comfortable for them (putting everyone in a learning/challenging/unfamiliar situation). Making time to practice each week, playing and writing music as a team, and getting on stage in front of crowd took dedication, time, effort, and gutzzzz. The empowering results were worth it all!

Girls Rock Austin is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women, girls, non-binary and trans youth of all backgrounds and abilities through music and workshops. Our main program is a day camp for ages 7-17 where campers learn an instrument, form a band, write an original song together and perform in a showcase all in one week. They also get to participate in several empowering workshops throughout the week. We're all about making your voice heard! Some of the workshops we offer at camp are recording, synthesizers & sound design, and podcasting. On this page, we will post the camper recordings and podcasts.
