Dario Nunez is connecting well with DJs as he continues to climb high in the Tech House charts across Beatport & Traxsource with numerous top 10’s on Toolroom Trax, HUGEL’s Make The Girls Dance and Claptone’s Golden Recordings proving that DJs are resonating with his signature big room energy.

Dario’s a firm favourite of label boss Mark Knight and ‘Let The Groove’ has been a tried and tested staple in his DJ sets over the winter. Dario Nunez has become a stand-out Toolroom Trax regular and the label looks forward to releasing more music from him this year.

The S.O.S. Band’s “Just Be Good To Me” has been a perennial goldmine for dance music sample hunters. Norman Cook and his Beats International cohorts (as “Dub Be Good To Me” in 1990) weren’t first, but they made the biggest early splash. Since then, everyone from 2pac and 50 Cent to Cloonee and Earth’n’Days have had a shot. Italy’s Jude & Frank are the latest to step up, and on this superb house version, they take the Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis song on a rolling ride through loopy house and deliver the kind of peak-time pumper that reminds us of peak Junior Jack. It’s a killer.

Qubiko's bumpy, chunky house music is back on Toolroom Trax with his irresistible trademark grooves. Qubiko has successfully evolved his sound by bringing up the tempo without sacrificing his unique distinctive style and quality.

His latest Toolroom Trax release ‘Dark Side’ saw some incredible support from Danny Howard at Ministry Of Sound and Adam Beyer at his infamous Drumcode party in Bali amongst more support from Groove Armada, Jamie Jones and Chris Lake which proves that Qubiko has the ability to connect across multi-genres of dance music. His discography reads like a roll call of house music royalty, finding homes on labels like Defected, Club Sweat, Edible, Solotoko and Hottrax. This impressive roster speaks volumes about the high regard in which Qubiko is held by label A&Rs and DJs alike.

Digging for vinyl was fun, but digital digging has taken things to a new level. In the 90s, we would struggle to spend more than a few hours in a record store. Those hours now pass in the blink of an eye when you’re in a DSP rabbit hole! It was one of those never-ending stories that led us to Bridvog. In a past life, he recorded as Ambear, and we found his life-affirming synth anthem “Make Me Move” at the end of an ARTBAT playlist. From there, we discovered the Kraftwerk-inspired indie-dance of “R Life” on DiYnamic. Conveniently, he popped up in our inbox with an idea; needless to say, we were all over it. Recently, Kevin has been revisiting ideas from his Mylo and Linus Loves era, which chimed perfectly with Bridvog. Fast-forward a few weeks, and the pair deliver “Salty”, taking Alessia Labate’s ultra-hooky vocal on a turbocharged indie-tech ride through 106 bass and Nord stabs (IYKYK).

Marco Lys & Ben Miller - Hear This (Short Mix)

“Walk on By” was written by the legendary songwriting duo of Burt Bacharach and Hal David for Dionne Warwick. Dionne’s 1964 version stands up as probably the best version to date, despite having some big hitters recording covers (Isaac Hayes, The Stranglers, Gloria Gaynor). We have a soft spot for the Gabrielle version in the GU office, but, really, Dionne nailed it. When it comes to samples, however, the Isaac Hayes version smashes Dionne out the park with over 100 artists sampling his version, although you could argue that Doja Cat’s 2023 lift of Dionne (“Paint The Town Red”) and its 1B+ streams trumps all of that. The point of all this? Well, nothing more than to show the song is an evergreen staple for artists and producers for the last 50 years. Adding to this now we have Italian producers Skylin3 and Simon Adams who put a deep house spin on the classic melody. Disco beats and a loopy bassline form the groove, add in some delicious chords and that iconic topline, and you have the kind of super-playable deep house that will entertain from poolside to the club. Tasty.

Glasgow Underground was set up in 1997 by Kevin McKay. He began the label releasing his own music and collaborations with friends and other Glasgow-based artists (Omid 16b, Studio Blue, DJ Q, Harri). Through his DJing and work for various music magazines (Muzik, Jockey Slut, Mixmag Update) he met some of his favourite producers of the time (Romanthony, Mateo & Matos, Idjut Boys...) and convinced some of them to join him releasing on GU. In the early 2000s, Kevin met Mylo and set up the Breastfed record label. The global success of "Destroy Rock & Roll" meant Glasgow Underground was put on hold. After leaving the Breastfed label in 2011, Kevin re-started Glasgow Underground and since then the label has gone on to re-invigorate Romanthony's catalogue with remixes from the likes of Dixon, MCDE, Gerd, Andres, Oliver Dollar, Ejeca, Audiojack, Claptone, Christian Nielsen, Supernova, Jimmy Edgar and Waifs & Strays. The label has also introduced producers like Daniel Trim, Brett Gould, Mia Dora and Illyus & Barrientos as well has releasing established & rising stars such as Metodi Hristov, Stefano Ritteri and Sabb.
