Nathan Katz - Moonlight

I stumbled across this acapella a few months ago and absolutely fell in love with Danielle Ponder's voice. It was so compelling that it felt as if the universe was calling me to create a song with it, so I did. This track is an accumulation of everything I have learned about producing in the past year. I wrote it, mixed it and mastered it all myself (aside from the vocal obviously). It's not perfect but it's honest work and I'm proud of it. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.

Kevin McKay & Brian Smith’s original version of this deep house jam is a musical delight. However, often playing in bigger venues in London, Kevin wanted a more stripped back groove for his sets. The original’s super-hooky vocal is included, as are Kevin’s tough deep house groove. Giovanni Lucchetti is a London-based DJ and producer who weaves deep and afro house spells across high-end venues across the city. His previous releases on Nervous and Cafe De Anatolia struck a chord, and he became one of our A&R scouts, bringing in such talent as Oscar Barila, Emilie Rachel and Francis De Simone. He met Abigail Smiths at University, where the two wrote the initial "Dreamstate" demo. Fast forward to 2025, and Gio and Kevin McKay have a studio session to turn the demo into a deep house thumper. Abigail Smiths' brilliantly disconnected vocal now has a rolling deep groove with a mesmerising stab and sweet synth sprinkles. So, if you're a fan of Gorge or Dilby, check this one out.

Over the last few years, we have seen the rise of sample pack vocal use in house music. On some levels, it's been great for producers; they now have access to vocals without having to either write & create their own or clear a sample. It has decreased creativity and individuality on other levels as DJs and producers rework the same oft-used Splice vocals. Since women make most of the vocals, we could argue that Splice, Loopcloud, et al. have devalued their contribution to the scene by rendering them invisible. We are against this idea at Glasgow Underground and have featured (and paid royalties to) sample pack vocalists who we have used. All well and good, you say, but what does this have to do with Kevin McKay's new single? It uses a sample pack of vocals, of course! Kevin has loved this one since the Arthouse Acoustics pack came out but held off releasing it as AZZUR beat him to the punch with their excellent "Me Gusta". Since their version has had its time, we can release Kevin's into the wild. So here it is, wrapped up in the same good-time percussive pump that has made his and Amal Nemer's version of "In The Air Tonight" so popular.

We last had Italian house technician Mauro Venti on the label in 2017. Since then, he has released a slew of uncompromising bangers on prime labels like Hot Creations, Desert Hearts, Sola, Repop, and Incorrect. For his return to Glasgow Underground, he teams up with David LeSal, whom most people will know from his killer collab with Sian on Octopus Recordings, “Black T-Shirt”. If you don’t, go check it out; it’s a wonderfully tripped-out spoken journey into club life, complete with wonky sounds and 2025 electroclash beats (aka Indie Dance). And don’t worry; it’s not about stylistically-challenged techno DJs.😂 Anyway, back to “Turn It Out”, this one is a pure slammer. Built on simple-but-heavy rhythms and a thumping bassline, this is a tech beat you could groove to for days. Add in David’s superb, Maxi Jazz-esque topline, and we have a DJ-friendly winner. File next to Biscits & Noizu.

It’s another chunky Tech House drop from Dario Nunez as he releases ‘Let The Groove’ on Toolroom Trax. Dario Nunez is connecting well with DJs as he continues to climb high in the Tech House charts across Beatport & Traxsource with numerous top 10’s on Toolroom Trax, HUGEL’s Make The Girls Dance and Claptone’s Golden Recordings proving that DJs are resonating with his signature big room energy.

Dario’s a firm favourite of label boss Mark Knight and ‘Let The Groove’ has been a tried and tested staple in his DJ sets over the winter. Dario Nunez has become a stand-out Toolroom Trax regular and the label looks forward to releasing more music from him this year.

Glasgow Underground was set up in 1997 by Kevin McKay. He began the label releasing his own music and collaborations with friends and other Glasgow-based artists (Omid 16b, Studio Blue, DJ Q, Harri). Through his DJing and work for various music magazines (Muzik, Jockey Slut, Mixmag Update) he met some of his favourite producers of the time (Romanthony, Mateo & Matos, Idjut Boys...) and convinced some of them to join him releasing on GU. In the early 2000s, Kevin met Mylo and set up the Breastfed record label. The global success of "Destroy Rock & Roll" meant Glasgow Underground was put on hold. After leaving the Breastfed label in 2011, Kevin re-started Glasgow Underground and since then the label has gone on to re-invigorate Romanthony's catalogue with remixes from the likes of Dixon, MCDE, Gerd, Andres, Oliver Dollar, Ejeca, Audiojack, Claptone, Christian Nielsen, Supernova, Jimmy Edgar and Waifs & Strays. The label has also introduced producers like Daniel Trim, Brett Gould, Mia Dora and Illyus & Barrientos as well has releasing established & rising stars such as Metodi Hristov, Stefano Ritteri and Sabb.
