‘Glutes’ is peak-time material without being overly fast or chaotic, the energy instead coming from the transportive arrangement and emotive melodic content. The same can be said for Bäumel’s ‘Surge’ on Kompakt, an anthem in the sets of Tale Of Us last year which led to this release.

The title track rises and falls, surging with wide-sweeping synth notes and a steady rhythm to anchor the waves. An infectious refrain pulls you further in and, right on cue, the kick drum continues to beat the sweet spot. ‘Engage’ is filled with similarly subtle details, uplifting arpeggios and atmospheric reverb. Half-way through the melody bursts into life, shining brightly through the haze and creating one of those moments of release that make the Afterlife sound work so well on a dancefloor.

The Wrong Future is the 7th album from Ugress, your favorite courier of dark, dystopian and dancy electronica to countless clubs, stages, festivals, films, TV shows and video games. Faeries of norse mythology roam a post-apocalyptic landscape. The gloom-groovy Black Anorak blends the sonic textures of black metal, norse folk and abandoned ruins with dark electronica and film music.

The album references cult norwegian action-music scores from the 80ies like Orion’s Belt and Etter Rubicon, while also incorporating elements of black metal, folk music and using samples from abandonded buildings and infrastructure in western norwegian fjords. Black Anorak features contributions from folk musician Annlaug Børsheim on kveding, a particular norwegian vocal song technique, and the Hardangerfiddle, a traditional western norwegian string instrument, with a double set of strings to create sympathetic resonance to the main strings.

Composed, arranged, performed, programmed and produced by Gisle Martens Meyer. Vocals on “The Deepest Veil” by Annlaug Børsheim. Hardingfele on "The Deepest Veil" and "Toil 22" by Annlaug Børsheim.
