The behavior of global oligarchic power structures makes a lot more sense when you see that it's not as much a lucid elite conspiracy as it is a few barely-conscious humans compulsively acting out psychological dynamics within themselves that they don't really understand. Elite conspiracies happen to be sure, but what's ultimately driving them is not a complete and coherent vision for the future which takes all things into account but rather the simple egoic impulses of barely-evolved primates blindly trying to shore up control like chimps asserting dominance.

The sociopaths who rule our world are no more conscious of their own inner processes than your average serial killer. They can act out their impulses in a way that looks very organized and efficient, but the driving forces beneath it are the least-evolved aspects of humanity. We are ruled by apes with PR firms.

That's why they often behave in ways that are nonsensical. Some ask why they'd continue killing the biosphere and flirt with nuclear war when it can kill them, for example. And the answer is not that nuclear brinkmanship is a phony performance or that climate destruction is a hoax, but that you're dealing with the same dumb stimulus-response impulses as any other basic organism.

It is true that the drivers of the US-centralized empire want to live as gods, able to cause famines or rain fire in any part of the world which disobeys them. It is not a coincidence that the few remaining parts of the world where they cannot do this are the parts you're most forcefully trained to hate.

But these are not gods enacting grand visions from on high; they are organisms acting out the same forces that have been unfolding since the Big Bang just like the rest of us. And they are less conscious of the way those forces are playing out within themselves than your average healthy human, not more.

We Are Ruled By Apes With PR Firms

Meanwhile methane—a far more potent greenhouse gas than carbon in the short term—has started hemorrhaging into the atmosphere from thawing arctic permafrost, and no one really knows what to do about it. This, like the albedo effect of polar ice loss and numerous other self-reinforcing warming effects that have been unlocking in recent years, can potentially cause the Earth to continue warming all on its own regardless of future human behavior.

That's all on top of the western empire ramping up world-threatening aggressions against both nuclear-armed Russia and nuclear-armed China simultaneously, a multi-front cold war the likes of which we've never seen before and which is only just barely getting started. And if we don't wipe ourselves out by climate collapse or nuclear war, we could still easily do it fairly soon with weaponized AI. 

So our species is facing existential threats on myriad fronts which could easily lead to horrifying extinction-level events which we could easily see unfold in our own lifetimes.

And it's just so very strange how we don't talk about that more.

Entre ellos pueden mencionarse playas, arroyos, médanos, marismas, humedales y aguas costeras. Las playas se definen como formaciones sedimentarias sujetas a una dinámica muy reactiva que se encuentran condicionadas por la presencia humana e infraestructuras turísticas (Barragán y Chica, 2013). Son particularmente importantes para la protección contra tormentas, control de la erosión, turismo y recreación, captación y purificación del agua, mantenimiento de la biodiversidad y provisión de materias primas, entre otras. Las principales presiones o impulsores de cambio sobre el ecosistema playa se derivan de impactos del cambio climático (aumento del nivel del mar, incremento de precipitaciones y evaporación, intensidad y frecuencia de tormentas), del incremento de construcciones como defensas o infraestructura turística y de la contaminación por desechos (residuos sólidos, aguas residuales), entre otros (Marshall et al., 2014).

We're in the final countdown to British Home Secretary Priti Patel's decision on the fate of Julian Assange, with the WikiLeaks founder's extradition to the United States due to be approved or rejected by the end of the month. Joe Lauria has a new article out with Consortium News on the various pressures that Patel is being faced with from both sides of this history-making issue at this crucial time.

And I can't stop thinking, as this situation comes to a boil, about how absurd it is that the US empire is working to set a precedent which essentially outlaws information-sharing that the US doesn't like at the same time western news media are full of hand-wringing headlines about the dangerous threat of "disinformation".
