We reflect on how much has changed & how much is still the same. From my 9-5 desk job to now writing music & DJing around the globe. The Mechanism

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: The blood, sweat, and tears of 30+ human beings, who bore their souls to make this mix possible.  A good solid chunk of techno/house music, both new and old.  

USES: Use of this mix is unadvised if it is referred to as “Trance” or “Deep”.  People who feel the only good records are those that came out within the last 5 (working days), should not use this mix.  People who wear scarves in August (unless you specifically live in the Southern Hemisphere or the North Pole, in which case, please also use a jacket), should not use this mix.  People who have frequent urges to hold their mobile phones to request songs from DJs should not use this mix.  People who feel they are electronic music aficionados because they have been to Electric Daisy Carnival, and anyone that thinks image is more important than substance, should not use this mix.  Lastly, people who feel it is pretentious to say who should and shouldn’t listen to this mix...you’re totally right!!

DIRECTIONS: Please respect the music and listen on a proper soundsystem or headphones, those listening on laptop speakers or headphones that came free with your mp3 device will not experience any of the benefits of the mix; those using Beats by Dre will only experience partial benefits. 
Listen once daily as needed.  Increased dosage on Mondays and Wednesdays is highly recommended to combat general malaise of ‘early week boredom’.  Removal of black clothing is highly recommended during the listening process, unless you are a blood relative of Johnny Cash, or are listening en route to a funeral - in which case we would like to express our condolences.

“When I was writing these songs, I pictured myself playing a house party in a dingy little beach town. Like, all these super-sweaty college kids dancing so hard. That’s the atmosphere of my music: a little town that makes a lot of noise.” DENM makes good on that promise with his debut EP, Dreamhouse, and single “Under Pressure,” which are awash with natural uppers. Hailing from Santa Barbara and having been in a handful of bands, he has spent every spare moment writing for this project.
 
Investing arduous hours into studio time, mingling pop and garage rock with BPMs and R&B, the musician admits his craft takes a ton of discipline. “I don’t smoke weed and… wait for inspiration. I’ll get in the studio and hustle—like, write 10 songs on the guitar just to get one good one,” then adding texture using synths and more guitars, producing the tracks himself into a hybrid between deep house, R&B, and pop.

Sunday morning, the most beautiful sunrise, after almost a whole week in the desert. It was been the coldest night so far, I remember setting up my gear, nervously hoping it wouldn’t let me down, when the sound-technician came up to me and said, "We might have a problem, there’s a storm coming!“. I turned around and saw a huge dark wall of sand reaching up to the sky, rolling into our direction.
I started playing anyways, and somehow the storm merged together with the lyrics of my songs, and changed their meaning. It had been the roughest condition I ever played in, and it really was a special one. Thank you for that experience!

ART:

The Chapel of Dancing Shadows is a space of contemplation, meditation, wonder. It is a communal space serving as art gallery, refuge, and sound bath. The 8-ft walls are covered in delicate drawings— the first 12 images of a developing 150-plate series of works composing Maria Kreyn’s Codex, an allusion to an invented creation myth. The ceiling is an elaborate CNC cut structure, creating the feeling of an arabesque lace canopy. From it hang detailed rafters and a collection of wind chimes, as an ode to the sounds in the temples of Myanmar.   

"As a child, I doodled. As an adult, the images have evolved into a complex universe in their own right-- a surreal, yet classically inspired world of fantasy, illusion, spatial bending, and mythology. The images are meanderings through the labyrinths of the subconscious. They gesture at a creation myth of an invented civilization, at the beauty and aesthetic of pattern making in the human mind--both visual and literary.  As this body of work evolves, the images find new outlets, new homes, new media to participate in. Making their debut as the walls of an immersive installation (The Chapel of Dancing Shadows), they are now available to enjoy in a smaller, more intimate print form, closer to their original size.”  -Maria
