Leon Maultsby begins by explaining that the Drew Center for AIDS Research, Education, and Services (Drew CARES) is a diverse, multidisciplinary group of Los Angeles-area educators, researchers, and clinical providers who are working to end the HIV epidemic. Drew CARES provides a wide array of services to HIV+ individuals in South Los Angeles, all of which are free of charge. Dr. Farid Zarif begins by reminding the audience to always consult their medical provider before beginning any new treatment regimen.  He suggests that many home remedies were in response to lack of access to over the counter products, so people had to be creative, and may have worked because of the “placebo effect”. The Division of Community Engagement of Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science presents a weekly live one hour radio magazine. This program is designed to promote equity in holistic health outcomes and research involvement by (1) teaching stress reduction techniques and coping skills over the radio (2) creating awareness of chronic disease risk reduction and prevention strategies in the community and (3) cultivating trust and interest in Community-Partnered Participatory Research. We invite Community-based Pastors, Spiritual Leaders, Healthcare Professionals, Academic Researchers and Community Members to share valuable, personal, professional, health and research information. Our goal is to engage and enlist the listeners as advocates for equity in holistic health and research involvement in the community.
