Marc Meistro from Sol Power All-Stars finally made his Detroit debut back in August of this year alongside Peter Croce at MotorCity Wine. We thought there was no better time to upload this set since the next Rocksteady Disco 12" is from Sol Power All-Stars.

Entitled NYAH-ROCK it's a collection of Cymande covers with an electronic pan-African twist. Cymande, the storied British funk band with Caribbean roots released a string of stone cold classic albums in the 1970s that have inspired generations of producers, DJs, dancers, and music fans around the globe. They recently reunited and will kick off a US tour in early 2023 alongside the release of the highly anticipated award-winning documentary, Getting it Back. The Sol Power All-Stars pay tribute to Cymande’s legacy by effortlessly blending the raw energy of original afro funk sound with ‘nuff sub and drums to turn out any dance floor.

This mix was recorded on the MotorCity Wine patio on one of the hottest Sunday afternoons we had last summer. We had some CDJs, a Condesa mixer, a dub siren, and bottles upon bottles of vinho verde. Mostly deep house vibes as the sun set.

In Hour 2 we welcome Khruangbin , the Texan trio who take influence from 1960's Thai funk (their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai ) and include Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald “DJ” Johnson on drums. Their debut album from 2015 ‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspirations and was recorded at their spiritual home, a remote barn deep in the Texas countryside. The band listened to a lot of different types of music on the long drives out to the country but their favorites were 60s and 70s Thai cassettes gleaned from the cult Monrakplengthai blog and compilations of southeast Asian pop, rock and funk. Their mix is a sublime selection of music that includes Arthur Verocai, Return to Forever, Serge Gainsbourg, Miles Davis and some incredibly rare records from Christy Azuma, Ahmed Fakroun and Theodora Ifudu. You can catch them playing alongside Kendrick Lamar, Jamie XX and Kamasi Washington in Hyde Park, London on 2nd July, their US Tour kicks off in September and they have a remix release coming out in early June.

Natasha has been lighting up dance floors across the globe with her energetic and eclectic brand of underground disco. She is the label boss of Ghetto Disco Records (UK) and a recent addition to the Defected & Glitterbox rosters. It is with absolute joy that we present her Funky Seshwa guest mix!! 

Born and raised in Edinburgh into a soul music obsessed family, Natasha was introduced to rare Soul, Funk, Boogie and Rare Disco from a young age.

Spotted by the main influencers in the Disco & House scene Natasha quickly took up residency at seminal events such as: Southport Weekender / Festival, UK, Suncebeat Festival, Croatia, Liverpool Disco Festival, Ocean Beach Ibiza & Pikes Ibiza. Recently, Natasha Kitty Katt was snapped up by the Defected Glitterbox imprint and is now playing at their Global Events around the world.
As a producer, her releases have gained interest with tracks out on Glitterbox Recordings, Tropical Disco Records, Midnight Riot, No Fuss Records, Masterworks Music, Paper Recordings, Tribe & Situationism. The House Music Legends are also paying attention with an imminent release on DJ Spen’s label UnQuantize & Louie Vega MAW has reworked two of her tracks for his forthcoming album on Nervous Records.

This week a very special guest mix for the Sunset Lovers is coming from Bounty Bay into Pitcairn Island, and brings you a carefully selected quality sunbathed melodies for your listening pleasure.
Eclectic Journeys aka Silas Wager, alias set up for Balearic and Leftfield edits. takes you on the fantastic music journey with an eclectic selection that fits into the Balearic / Leftfield category. These categories aren’t limited to a single genre, it’s often more about the feel of a song, it’s production, or how it’s different from the norm. So you might hear every genre under the sun from Eclectic Journeys, from Ambient to Zouk and everything in between.

Eclectic Journeys aka Silas Wager, who grew up in north London, and found himself immersed in the extensive music scenes, starting with Rare Groove parties in the mid 80's that often shared a room with Dj's playing acid house music, Hedonism was one such club, a small (very small) warehouse near Hanger Lane roundabout, where you would also see live jazz funk bands playing. While he loved clubs that specialized in just one genre like RIP in Clink Street that played Acid and House music all night, or Confusion, it was clubs like Shoom that took you on a real musical journey, from hearing deep hypnotic and balearic beats to suddenly hearing a song you remember from the charts in the early 80's.
