As rich sonically as it is in social commentary, Marteka Fair's latest techno EP is a perfect fit for the budding discography of VAST.

Marteka Fair is from North Carolina, and the American DJ and producer is a key part of the local scene co-creating Liminal Space, a live concert series with visual artist Fluxxss that merges sound and image into a shared, sensory environment. She has not only appeared on club and festival line-ups alongside Rrose, Rødhåd, DVS1, and Bloody Mary, but also lists releases on Berlin's W133, Infra, and Maison Fauna, while being behind the A&R for VAST's releases.

The Life After Internet EP consists of four tracks along with remixes by Bekkler and JAK. It draws inspiration from a time when the information revolution lay at our fingertips, promising what seemed at the time like a utopian frontier of human connection.

Bekkler is a Berlin-based artist who is co-founder of Backhaus Records and resident at its affiliated event series, Backhaus Kollektiv, as well as gracing top labels like BCCO and PRTL WRX.

JAK is the SubSensory label boss from Portland, Oregon with over 20 years of industry experience. From hosting legendary events, to playing around the world, he includes music on imprint's such as Ricardo Garduno's Illegal Alien, Mike Derer's Northern Parallels, and Angel Alanis' Slap Jaxx.

"Lucid Thinking" communicates loudly and clearly that this will not be a forgettable record. Present and accounted for are all the tried-and-true hallmarks of specialist techno, but an inventive synth melody snaps the listener’s train of thought into the moment in a way that only the most skilled producers are capable.

No momentum is lost by the time "Access Denied" cues up. From its otherworldly groove to how its sound design taunts the listener with nonverbal vowel sounds, the single stands out as a case study in pushing the limits of what constitutes techno. It doesn’t deviate far from its core motif — nor does it need to.

"Missed Call" follows with crystalline textures a la early Robert Hood, with a long section devoted entirely to the track's hollow, rattling percussion. In his rendition, Bekkler reinterprets a small sliver of the source material's experimental chord progression to instil an air of urgency sure to trigger a shift in energy on any dance floor.

Rounding out the original singles appearing on the tracklist of the EP is "Frisson." While markedly more melodic than the music preceding it, its arrangement meanders in a way that might sound random to the untrained ear. JAK expanded upon this complex emotional palette in his remix, spinning it into the lore of an exhilarating story.

Although more than three decades have passed since the advent of the Internet, mankind continues to grapple with its impacts on nearly every aspect of our day-to-day lives. Much in the same way, Marteka Fair's Life After Internet EP proves that there is uncharted territory left to explore in techno. After all this time, we've only scratched the surface.

Kamen is a French DJ and producer, co-founder of OSS Records and GRS Techno. His sound blends hypnotic techno, industrial grit, hardgroove energy, and ambient depth, with a strong focus on textured sound design and precision rhythms.

Active for nearly 15 years, he draws inspiration from labels such as Hayes, Ilian Tape, and Mutual Rytm, and also performs under the alias JS.TRICKS as well as one half of the duo Crime Partners.

With releases on respected imprints including Skryptöm, PRX Records, PRTL WRX, DifferentSounds, and Inphase, Kamen continues to shape his distinctive sonic universe. His recent standout performance at FOLD for the 100th UNFOLD event confirmed his rising profile.

A versatile and dedicated artist, Kamen is part of a new generation pushing techno forward with depth and character.

This episode continues VARIA’s mission: championing considered electronic expression and lasting artistry.

Gordo Trax presents its third reference through this EP coming from one of its label managers: @finalversion3. “Human CPU” is a techno EP full of robotic synthesis and dystopian howls in which a conversation between machines and humans takes place as a sonorous reflexion about the future of the species. The EP opens with a passage filled with uncertainty: “CPU Dialogue”. This track lays out a synthetic and metallic future in which humans are echoes of their own nature and crave to go back to their roots. In the process of transformation between machine and human, “Artificial Miscegenation “ is placed. This is track that shifts from robotic coldness to the warmth of human skin. To conclude the transmutation comes “Irrevocably human”, an erratic and bodily sob that continuously evolves and changes, reminding us of what we’ve always been. The “CPU Dialogue” remix from H. Paul ( @h-p ) redefines the track shaping it as a robotic monologue.
