"Trying to capture the feeling of summer in the Northeast is tough, the most concise summation I could muster is, "finally here, it's almost over" because honestly thats how it feels up here. (not to mention that by the time I finally ever do a summer mix, it tends to be almost over). That feeling of fleeting warmth and beauty coupled with my city emptying out every summer (byyyye students!) is what I tried to capture in this mix, and for me this is what it sounds like inside my head when I step out of the house and start walking on those first warm days. It's also my attempt to extend the summer feeling a little longer than the weather usually allows us to. It's a funky little 55 minute trip through some disco, cumbia, funk, afrobeat y mas. "2018 was a turning point in my 20-year love affair with Brasilian music, starting with the release of my reworks compilation Férias ’77 on Razor-N-Tape, and culminating in my recent trip to the Mareh Festival. Aside from being one of the gig highlights of my career - on a boat full of joyful dancers - the whole experience really deepened my feeling for the unique culture and music of Brasil. I came home buzzing, and ran this mix off in one shot without much planning, using some vinyl, some digital, some edits, and some originals. I hope that joy comes through in the music!"

GOURANGA MIXTAPE: JKriv’s Depois de Mareh

It’s difficult to come up with fresh ideas in this strange cabin fever environment we all have right now. Most of the time I take my inspiration and my ideas from the people dancing in front of me. It’s easy that way and exciting. But tonight I had this thought, I remembered something all DJs and dancers know about. I remembered what it is like when you have had a long set or session through the night or day. Or perhaps for a few days at a festival. And then at a certain point you are playing or dancing and everyone who is there wants to be there. This is the place. This is the time. It maybe isn’t the best gig or moment in your career or life. But for that precious period of time it is just you and the people on the dance floor. You are together as one and as a DJ you can do what you want because you are united in the music. This is often a great time to drop the tempo and play the music you love and which has real feeling. I love those moments. I tried to capture them tonight stuck in a studio on my own. I hope you will take the ride with me. Big love DT x

THE DAY AFTER THE DAY AFTER AT 6AM MIX

2020 was a tough one. I won’t bother to go back through it. You know it right?

Personally one of the bitterest blows for me was not being able to travel to my beloved Brasil and play at Mareh festival in Bahia over NYE this year. I caught Covid instead and stayed home to recover.

But to celebrate my love for all things Brasil, which is currently like many countries suffering very bad times due to the pandemic, and in particular my love for my Mareh family, I made a new mix of Brasilian music. I hope that the music will help relieve some pressure during these difficult times, as music can, and add a positive note of hope for better times ahead we can share together.
