Premiere: Ben Hoo edits System Of Survival's 'Kutting' with Balearic melody

Today's premiere brings the first cut of Get Physical's Ibiza 2017 compilation curated specially by Ben Hoo with the artist's remix of System Of Survival's 'Kutting' featuring Vhelade.

The London native, now known as one of Ibiza's most celebrated residents, has collected tracks representing the party-culture island including work by Tantsui, Clara Brea, Peter W and Nma Gorji. The 15-piece assortment also includes five ​original and remixed tunes by Hoo.

'Kutting' starts with a beautiful, light flowing piano riff that seamlessly transforms with the addition of spiritual, echoing vocals and quickening percussion. Its melody brings listeners smoothly into an Ibiza sunrise set with its mellow yet bright beating essence.

'Get Physical Presents Ibiza 2017 Mixed and Compiled by Ben Hoo' will release via Get Physical Music on June 23.

Taken from Sweet As Broken Dates, a stunning new compilation of lost Somali music, put together by @OstinatoRecords, is a 15 track story telling the story of Somali's sounds pre-civil war. The music of compilation is put together from tapes of Somali music that was buried into the ground to survive bombings.

Aamina Camaari's track is a perfect combination of beautiful vocal song, traditional instrumentalism and danceable bass line.

@africaine-808's sun-streaked revisitation of @makadem-1 'Nyako' is a matter of subtle editing and surgical precision. Very nuanced and complete with a neatly instilled balearic wind, Leyers and Reuschl's remix shows skills don't equal a gee whiz overhaul, as the groove savoir-faire of the pair takes the original mix into new uncharted grounds and up to bewitching, dreamy heights.

This track started my musical journey through the Middle East back in March 2017. It is devoted to a man that left his war-torn country Syria, his hometown Damascus, and his beloved family to seek peace in Europe. I’m happy to call him a friend!

Album Dedication:
The first letter I ever wrote in life, around age 6, was for my grandparents. In this letter I thanked them both for their endless love and kindness and promised them that one day, I too would take care of them and make sure they were “in good hands”.

Around the time of my college graduation, my grandmother suddenly got very sick and I knew the time had come to deliver my promise. During the days of her struggle with cancer and my grandfather’s subsequent illness, triggered mainly by his sadness for witnessing her gradual decay, I was very fortunate I could be near them till the very end.

Today, in the 10th anniversary of the departure of both my grandparents from this world, I decided to dedicate this EP to their memory. The time I wrote my first letter for my grandparents happens to coincide with the time I started singing.  So, I consider this album a love letter of sorts. It consists of some of my grandmother’s favorite songs. Each time one of these songs appeared on TV or the radio, my grandmother would almost always sing along, hence the title of the album: “Songs for my Grandmother”.

"Humming Dunes" is the perfect EP opener with a slow building structure that leads you on a mysterious journey. With atmospheric textures, sitar samples, and Arabic notation, this mystical track tantalises the senses with its captivating atmosphere.

Swiss artist Canson bought his first synthesiser in 1994 and after years of experimentation made his first official release in 2000. That first release was in collaboration with Cosili, and following that the pair launched their Anatol alias, which soon lead to live set bookings at places like the world famous Robert Johnson club in Frankfurt.

It wasn’t long before Canson was also releasing solo records and his individual back catalogue now includes imprints such as KATERMUKKE, Cityfox and Bar 25 Music amongst others. Also a key part of the underground music scene in his home city of Zürich, he is an accomplished DJ with regular local and international bookings.

This is Canson’s third appearance on Sol Selectas and along with his two original tracks, the EP also features a remix from Ninze.

Sol Selectas is a label run by US artist Sabo, and the label matches his deep and tribal sound. The artwork is designed by his fiance Helia Jamali, and is carefully created to visualise the individual sound of each release.

Discotheque Fantastique is a musical collaboration that produces an eclectic spectrum of genres, somewhere between psychedelic rock, rare groove, funk and cosmic disco.
The First release is an EP with three driving tracks.  
The first track by Discotheque Fantastique "carnaval" has a percussive beat, hypnotic bassline, solid funk breaks with layers of tension. The second track by Herr 2003's "bourdonnement de l'amour" is an amazing rework of a classic 70’s psychedelic rock tune with a groovy bass line, punchy female vocals and a shimmering arpeggiator synth. On the B Side, Club Bizarre delivers an incredible extended version of a classic French cut from the 80’s.
