We continue our journey into sound with the Wandering II Compilation. This compilation celebrates the 20th release in the original SS series. A journey that took close to a year to compile and prepare. The tracklist is comprised of friends and artists who share in a connection with Silent Season through their music.

The Wandering Compilation is named after the Wandering tree, a Big Leaf Maple that grows very slowly near the beach by my house. I sit under this tree to ponder and watch the ocean. It’s a favourite place to chill with music and contemplate life. It’s under this tree that the idea of compiling a series of music that embodies the Silent Season vision and sound was born. We welcome you to sit back, close you’re eyes and listen to the sounds of the Wandering II compilation.

In a world rife with chaos there is so much beauty that can be found by being in nature. The aim of the Wandering compilation is to share music that encourages people to take notice of their natural surroundings and find peace within Mother Nature. The love of nature is a common language that transcends political and social boundaries. Through music, nature gives us universal purpose.

"While exploring new production techniques using old and unlikely hardware, the results were so unusual that I really had the sense that these pieces of equipment didn't actually create these sounds, rather they were in fact some kind of elaborate reception device that allowed me to tune into transmissions from Distant Galaxies. The music I could hear was actually the received transmissions of Pop Hits from those Distant Galaxies that were being played on their radio stations.
I quickly recorded all that I could before losing the transmission.

I consulted with Dr Andrew Read, the astrophysicist with whom I recorded Guitar Treatments in 1999. He has worked on the discovery of the most distant galaxies and astronomical objects in the Universe. Together we came up with a possible list of where these musical transmissions may have come from."

His stunning live performance of ‘Headband’ at the 2014 Labyrinth festival left Van Hoesen dazed and enthralled. This was the origin of the remix found here, which perfectly conveys the themes of ‘Stealth’. The remix is complemented by one of Van Hoesen’s own productions, the epic ‘Breach’.

It is extremely difficult to detect an ‘Extrasolar Moon’ and this analog dub techno cut has been proved to be as close to the free-floating planet as possible. Its bassline-driven raw jacking acid techno is perfectly aligned with grad_u’s signature heavily echoed dub, and the only thing that protects one from escaping the orbit is flipping to side B. There one’ll find yet another 10+ minutes of goosebumps, this time erected by ‘Geomagnetic Storm’, a pure and emotionally vigorous dubbed out bomb. 

The 12” from Redscale is an ultimate equity between the outer space of a dancefloor and the inner self of the mind. Last but by no means least is the fact it has been mastered at the legendary Dubplates & Mastering in Berlin.
