Kevin Speltz knows the weirder side of bass music. Knows it real well. So when he was putting together a remix album for his Sleep Helmet EP, he wrangled up a number of artists on the same tip. Duffrey out of Oakland is one of those oddballs. Messing with time signatures, tempos, and most of all, your inner ear, his remix of "Cursive on the Phone" is a downtempo gurgler with bleeps, bloops, and drips that will have you looking around your apartment. Chill beat stylings mix with sexy vocal coos. It's a tour de force of subtle dance music that gets lost in today's bang-your-head culture. But we were lucky enough to find it. And so were you.
