I went through my record collection and picked out some of my favourite tunes from the mid 90s. These records are not on most of the 90s compilations / DJ mixes. There aren't necessarily 'rare' but they're less overplayed and are a good representation of UK dance floors from 93-96. I was going to club UK in Wandsworth a lot around this time and the records I bought from 93-96 were heavily influenced by that club. This mix has a tougher edge and lots of energy. Enjoy!

This was a class gig with Ubermod (@discobangerzrus) and I taking on mix duties for the first half of the night. The place was rammed, the atmosphere was electric and it stayed rocking until 2am. 

This set is in the first half of the night. It is actually four sets. Ubermod played first and then we alternated. Unfortunately the first part of the first set didn’t record - so this comes in part way through Ubermod’s first set.

The fourth time playing house music all night long at The Book and Record Bar. Four DJs on the roster including me and long time partner in crime Ubermod (@discobangerzrus). This is actually 4 sets. The first two are the early part of the night and the second two are the later sets.

House Music All Night Long, The Book and Record Bar, London

Went digging through my records for some of my trance favourites from 1998. This set was heavily influenced by places like The Gallery at Turnmills, Republica at Bakers, GodsKitchen at the Sanctuary, Freedom at Bagleys.

Trance was massive in the UK clubs in 1998. Easy to see why with these tracks. It's hard to believe now, but back then even small towns had a decent club fronted by some quality residents with 'big name' guest DJs headlining each week. You did not have to look very far to find a range of great club nights for maximum weekend mayhem.

Clockwork Orange mixtape

The sound of London 1994. This mix contains a number of tunes from my collection that were big in 1994. It’s inspired by a mixtape that we used to refer to as ‘that clockwork tape’. The tape was originally made by an old pal of mine and was a mix of the stuff we were listening to at the time based on going to various clubs including Clockwork parties at The Cross, Saturdays at Club UK and the odd night at the Gardening Club. I've recreated it. Used to hammer these tunes in my Ford Fiesta. Happy memories!

Clockwork Orange Mixtape - sound of London 1994

Live set of banging house using mostly some of my old 90s vinyl and I also threw in a few recent tracks that are influenced by that era (using remixes and edits to spice it up a bit). 

This set is a bit rough and ready in places. A couple of the vinyl mixes I’ve done here aren’t gonna win me any awards - but I DJ for love and fun and there’s a certain 90s authenticity to this mix, warts and all. 

I normally play a lot of uplifting vocal stuff but I do love a proper banger and this take me back to times spent dancing in small, sweaty clubs with everyone smiling from ear to ear.

Scott Bond, Republica At Bakers Mixtape, 1996

In early 1995 one of London’s best ever nightclub venues, Turnmills, hosted the first edition of The Gallery. This became a Friday institution and I was a regular there. 

The great thing about the Gallery Friday nights in the 90s was the musical journey. Beginning with up-front house, the music would get harder and more trancey as the night wore on. DJs such as Tall Paul, Seb Fontaine, Danny Rampling and Lottie would rock the place. But it was resident Steve Lee who used to take the roof right off during his legendary late sets of trancey bangers until 6 or 7am.

I was asked to make another workout mix with an 80s theme and this is the result. Mostly nice edits and a couple of rare remixes in here but all very respectful to the originals. 90s House Re-Imagined

A clubbers guide to 1995. 

As in a real clubbers guide to 1995, rather than the Ministry of Sound CD series. This was a fantastic year for clubbing. After 1994 it felt like it couldn’t get much better. But 1995 saw some great tunes released, quality club nights were available everywhere and so many of us were having the time of our lives. I went through some records that I had from ’95 and put this one together as a reflection of some of the tunes that were big in clubs at the time - not the massive anthems that get played all the time but some of the big club tunes that haven’t appeared on tons of compilation CDs. I’ve done other mixes of the big vocal anthems from around 1995 but this mix is a little more underground.

This was the year that my clubbing exploits went well beyond the likes of Club UK and the Clockwork parties in London, as I discovered the clubs in the midlands and the north. Aged 20 I moved to Birmingham to become a student and regularly went to places like Wobble, Crunch, Fun, SLAG and Republica. Great times!

You can see how progressive house was a real influence in clubland during this year. There’s a nice build to this mix with things starting off upbeat and vocal, and then some lush progressive tunes, and a more banging ending. 

A few hisses, pops and clicks in here as this is a hybrid mix using some of my old vinyl and some digital files. One or two of the vinyl records in this are ‘well used’ hence the little imperfections in the sound – which I think adds a bit of warmth. Enjoy.
