Unsere Nr. 134 kommt heute von einem amerikanischen Künstler, der mich seit 3 Jahren ununterbrochen musikalisch begleitet. Ich erinnere mich noch sehr gut an seine damalige Bunring Man Aufnahme… Sie haute mich schlichtweg um. Seitdem komme ich nicht mehr um Ihn herum. 

Die Rede ist von „Atish“, einem ehrlichen und unkomplizierten Künstler, der keinen geradlinigen Weg ging. Anfangs noch Programmierer für Facebook, entschied er sich vor knapp 10 Jahren selber Musik zu mixen, wie seine unzähligen Mixe belegen. Anders als viele andere Künstler, die gerne ihre so genannte ‚peinliche‘ Anfangszeit verheimlichen möchten, sind bei Ihm tatsächlich noch alle Mixe zum Anhören verfügbar. Dass er damals wie heute seinem Sound gleich geblieben ist, spricht umso mehr für diesen sympathischen Menschen. 

Sein Coming Out hatte er 2012, als er auf dem Robot Heart art-car spielte. Seitdem ging es steil bergauf. Tokio, New York, Istanbul, Berlin,…um nur einige Stationen seines vollgepackten Kalenders zu nennen.

Aber auch in seiner Wahlstadt San Francisco treibt er weiterhin sein Unwesen. Und wie!!! Neben dem etwas anderen Clubformat mit dem Namen ‚Late night tonight!‘, einer Mischung aus Talk-Show und Club Party, gründete er auch das Label ‚Manjumasi‘. 
Und wäre dies nicht schon genug, feilt er in jeder freien Minute an kommenden Releases und Remixen. Tendenz steigend. Sowohl in Qualität, als auch in Quantität. Wir sind gespannt.

Das von Ihm eingespielte Set ist eine herrlich ‚afterhoureske‘ Reise ins Dickicht der melodischen und verträumten elektronischen Musik. Das sich Atish für dieses Set etwas ganz besonderes einfallen lassen hat ist unüberhörbar. Ich war beim ersten Hören des Sets tatsächlich komplett geflasht, hatte ich doch etwas anderes erwartet. Aber diese Überraschungsmomente, die unsere Reihe und die jeweiligen musikalischen Interpretationen immer wieder mit sich bringen, hauen mich, nein uns, immer wieder um. Darauf darf man auch ein wenig Stolz sein. Vor allem wenn man am Ende ein ganz außergewöhnliches Set erhält. So auch hier. Schnallt euch an… Ich kann mich nur wiederholen, aber es erwartet euch eine Reise durch verspielte, sehr deepe und hypnothische Felder, wie gemacht für eine tanzbare Afterhour sind. Das gabs bei uns schon lange nicht mehr….seid gespannt.

US artist Grant now located in France returns to his self-released white label series with an ever more expansive EP of deep, rolling house.

With a firm grasp for 80’s Chicago and Detroit House tased with 90’s deep house tropes, GRANT004 finds him on deepest ever form, with swirling luscious pads, snippet vocals and thudding percussion sinking us further down into the depths.

Spiritual Paths takes us soaring down cloud-filtered lanes of scuffed 909’s, shrouded pad-work and classic acid lines. Mediate holds a more firm groove and tinkering lines of melodic percussion, shifting and swaying from the edges of a pink-lit, smoke-filled 5am club haze.

Riffing off of all things Chicago, The Other Man is a testament and homage to the personal and intimate power of classic deep house. As a subtle finish to proceedings is Capital Road. An early morning workout with white morning sunlight filtering through the shades.

Good morning music lovers!!! Here is another freshly squeezed podcast for your heart, senses and friends and beloved around you. This podcast is made with spring in my mind. I love 4 seasons but if I have to pick my favourite I think Spring will win. Flowers are opening up again, so many things in nature start growing again, people take off their winter clothes (depending where you live) and doors and windows will be opened to live life to the fullest. And yes, with that in mind I selected some of my faves of this moment. I am so much looking forward to the next coming months. A few releases will find the way to Spotify and all other channels to start with Downtown (Crazy For You). It's no secret we're big fans of Heart to Heart (being one of Canada's only vinyl-focused labels is a quick way to get in our good books), and today we get to double down on the feels as H2H011 comes to us with an entirely Canadian lineup. "Tales From Plush Palace" is a nostalgia-soaked vinyl debut by Vancouverite regularfantasy that comes with three originals and a speedy remix from the never only so-so Zozi (aka the always a-plus D Tiffany).

After a brief intro of crunchy drums, a classic chord progression offers a trip down memory lane and goes onto become a reliable foundation for the rest of the track. Lush synth hits, warm pads, and the "not quite a trumpet but definitely a trumpet" you'll surely recognize from decades of house past, make up the family of vintage sounds that work together to build the track. A loose arrangement keeps things exciting while giving the vibe that the production was the result of intuitive jamming versus formulaic sequencing — a welcome feeling given how so many music making tools lend themselves so readily to the latter. And while it can be risky to dip so deeply into the past, everything here is fresh enough for guilt-free enjoyment.

On the remix, fellow Vancouver house-head DJ ZOZI speeds things up and flips the track from a casual afternoon in the sun to a night so late it has to be almost sunrise. Aptly named the late night mix, the quicker arrangement and added sounds make for a robust DJ tool that would sit comfortably in the "I don't want to know what time it is" section of your crate.

The B-side keeps things chill with "It's Softer Than It Looks Scotty Jam" and "House Interlude 2 (Island Mix)". Both tracks serve as a soothing come down to the raucous mood of the A-side and give the EP a subtle depth beyond the dancefloor. Tales From Plush Palace is out May 17th on vinyl.

The A side Love Somebody (Everyone) is an instant hands in the air classic, made purely for the dancefloor. Big swirling vocals and funk-led basslines are the order of the day, whilst those swinging percussions keep you shaking into the early hours! 

We thought “You Can Do It” was that good it also deserves a full side at 45rpm! Reminding us of an early Derrick Carter jam, wonky as you like disco/house hybrid at it’s finest- it’s as tough as it is fluffy, that bassline switch-up gets us every time! Festival business at it’s best from Hatterman here…

Estonian pioneer Raul Saaramets exists in many parallel musical universes and this is reflected in his stellar output as Ajukaja, mining a rich furrow of stand out, oddball yet eminently danceable, groovy house and beat experiments. As the program co-director for Estonia’s national radio station Raadio  2, he’s given his country unprecedented access to some of the hottest music on this planet. He’s also made some of the finest underground dance records over the last few years including ‘Stranger’, ‘Benga Benga’ and “Rare Birds’ (made with long time production partner Andrevski) which were hammered by the scenes elite. His Bergerac debut has been a long time coming but well worth the wait. 

Mhmhmh is a super vibey late night burner which quite obviously gets its title from the faintly Germanic, sleazy vocal sample which goes ‘um hum um hum’. 

Sklad trips you out even more with a mangled, ecstasy tinged fading in(tro) which gives you ‘that’ feeling

Ajukaja puts his disco hat on for side 2 with Ekleeer. A super danceable disco cut rolls out until the vocals drop in and you realise that David Lynch is on the remix. 

Walk previously saw light as a tape only track but it’s playful scuffed up jiggery pokery cried out for a vinyl release so here it is..

Amidst all this COVID-19 chaos, we’re all in search of positive outlets.  How about one from Edinburgh hey..? The jolly Scotsman Telfort returns with his 4th EP (TLFT004), once again pressed with his very own TFLT emblem. Now if you know this chaps music, there’s a sense of precision about his records, seemingly every layer of every track mixed to perfection and this dose is no different. 

The B1 ‘It’s A Phase’ immediately stuck its chest out. An artfully repetitive house roller, made up of sharp percussion, laser-like keys and a reverberating dial tone on loop. There’s real texture in this record with rich synths that feel like the gift of flight and dense bass notes that inspire human movement. ‘It’s A Phase’  deliberately doesn’t reach any great crescendos, it coasts along with an understated authority, like all those who drive Teslas. 

Thus far, its just been Telfort pressing original material to TLFT. If I were a fortune teller, I’d say it won’t be too long before he invites other producers aboard his classy house bandwagon. Hop on and find a spare seat!

	Dublin-hailing, Berlin-based DJ, Bill Mango’s debut EP, Sun, Sea & XTC, taps into a feeling that so many of us in the electronic music community have been craving since COVID-19 struck. As the virus continues to maintain a stranglehold on the live music industry, the feelings of communal bliss offered by live house shows is something that feels more and more like a hazy dream, receding farther and farther into the distance. 

	Sun, Sea & XTC is filled with sun-soaked, bleary-eyed, bittersweet tunes that remind us of the pure elation and dreamy escapism that house music can offer. No track manages to capture this array of feelings more effortlessly than the languid opener, “Carabela.” As the song fades in with birds chirping and gentle waves crashing on the shore, a soft, lilting guitar line, tambourine, and hand-drums all weave in to craft a rhythm primed for an outdoor venue during sunset. The track quickly picks up speed as the four-by-four drum and bass rhythm kicks in, while a synth-line that recalls sunlight shimmering on the ocean, along with a vocal sample of airy, exhaling breaths, work to maintain a lingering mood of dreaminess and ephemerality. As the song closes out, the synths and guitar drop away, revealing the pulsing rhythm underneath, a moment that feels like a wake-up call and reminder that the dream is nearly over. 

	The EP marks Bill’s first release on his new imprint Mango, which started as a residency at famed Berlin club Griessmüehle. This track, and the EP as a whole, is a wistful nod to the halcyon days of club-going and summertime outdoor sets. While these days may be still a ways away, this track offers a sublime encapsulation of the serenity house music can provide.
